I just solved this problem last week. I replaced the duck valves and that increased the vacuum, but the culprit was the Bellow. The bellow cost me $112.00 installed it and the 2 O rings and works fine. As Mike stated above, a little soapy water on the top will provide you with bubbles, if so it...
Well, now it is 2016 and I am faced with the same problem. The only difference this time is I have some white smoke coming from the Port engine. From reading, this means there is air somewhere in the lines, bad turbo, bad head gasket, fuel pump or a slew of other issues. I assume that since the...
I did my duck bills last year. This year when I started the forward head up water was pumping out the top of the unit. Took it out and found the original bellow had cracked over the winter. $130.00 for the bellow and $58 for the "O rings, about 3 hrs. including taking unit out and cleaning and...
My friend in the slip next to me has the 39MY and the add on hydraulic platform. On that platform sits an 11 foot dingy with a 30HP Honda engine. The boat did not skip a beat. Those Cummings handle the extra load perfectly. He still cruises at 28 knotts with no problem.
In the Galley there is a Marvel Refrigerator and a Marvel Freezer. The refrigerator is starting to cool less and less every weekend. It does not need to be defrosted so that isn't the issue, and I believe it is a closed system so I am not sure about adding Freon.
The bottom line is it is 17...
When I bought my boat I had the same issue, and yes, all 8 lights in the engine room were blown out, along with 80% of all the interior DC lighting. Some people just don't care about their boats. Since then I have put flourescent lighting in the engine room. You need sunglasses now when you go...
Well, after all the work on the port engine we took it out for a sea trial, and I pushed it up and the port engine declined back to 1400 RPMS. The Cat mechanic was baffled as he watched the pressure meter go up and down. After several times off getting to WOT and the port engine dropping we...
Thanks for the feedback, switching the other engine over to SAE 30 Cat oil this weekend. The Cat Mechanic found exactly what Frank Webster stated. Bad injector seal on the #6 cup. Causing the combustion gases to build. Had all cups 6 ground out and 2 new O rings put on all 6 injectors.
If you saw I posted a thread regarding a drop in RPM's due to compression gases leaking past the #6 injector. While the Cat Mechanic was putting a site glass on the fuel line to look for bubbles he asked what type of Oil I have been using. I replied Rotella 15W 40. He told me that the 3116/3126...
Frank, you were right on ! The Cat mechanic spent the first day with the site glass and we switched it from the good Starboard engine to the bad Port engine. An extreme difference in the bubbles in the site glass from the Port engine. We took everything apart, labeled it and he got his greese...
Took the boat out again this weekend witout the syncronizers, did the same exact thing. All filters were changed out end of last season, I have 2 Racors and one Cat filter per engine, they look fine(Racors). Making an appontment with Cat today. Does anyone know what position the knob on the fuel...
Thank you all ! Frank, I am having Cat come out on your suggestion. I truly appreciate your knowledge! And yes, it does react like I am pulling down the throttle to 1400 RPM
Yesterday while crusing home on the Sassafras river with the Engine Sync on my port engine dropped from 1900 rpm's to 1400rpm's. I dropped the starboard back to match it at 1400 and it shot back up to 1900 and then back down to 1400. All filters are clean and new, I did not disengage the sync...
Bought my 42 AFT in Maryland and thats where she is used. Love this boat, I always had Carvers, and this Sea Ray if superb in all aspects. I wish that Sea Ray would start making aft cabins again. I would upgrade if so....Have a great winter !
Frank, I have several friends that own this boat. Great boat with one exception. There seems to be a un certified problem in the 2004 and 2005 Cummins Engines. My friend had both engines blow this summer because of the pressed seats in the pistons, I believe it was both #5 cylinder. His 2005...
