    48 DA questions

I run closer to Camella. I usually cruise between 2250-2300 RPMs and that produces 21-22kts and about 40-42GPH.

    Weekend destinations from St. Pete

I appreciate all of the responses to this thread which I started last year when evaluating our move to St. Pete. We've now been here since mid-December and are keeping the boat at the Vinoy, which we've been very happy with. I'd appreciate any suggestions for good spots to go anchor for the...

    Weekend destinations from St. Pete

I'll be moving the family (my wife and I and our 8 year-old son) from Boston to St. Pete in mid-December. I guess I'll have to change my screen name on here once I do so. I previously posted a question about marinas in the St. Pete area in this forum and appreciate the responses that I...

    Boat lift capacity

We're looking at renting a condo that has a 40,000lb boat lift on the dock. The dry weight of our 48DA is 35,250 according to the spec sheet. I haven't used a boat lift before to store the boat. Would a 40,000lb boat lift be safe for our 48DA? Thanks in advance for advice.

    Boat transportation

Captain doesn't want to depart Boston for Florida in November

    Boat transportation

Thanks. One idea the captain suggested is for him to bring it down to Hilton Head or Charleston in early Oct and leave it there, and then either he'd go down a month or so later to finish the trip, or I could do the second half myself. I'm thinking hard about that option.

    Boat transportation

I understand that some dis-assembly and re-assembly of the hard top and prop is required to ship by land. The captain who I initially spoke to about taking the boat down via water is encouraging me to avoid this process and instead use him to take the boat down. It seems to me like the...

    Boat transportation

Thanks all for the quick replies. Great advice on bringing it to NJ, that wouldn't be a problem and sounds like it could reduce the cost significantly. I'd like to do it by water, but unfortunately don't have the time this year. Hope to do it myself at some point in the future.

    Boat transportation

We need to transport our 48DA from Boston to Florida this fall. I was making arrangements for a captain to take the boat down in late Sept. or early October and called our insurance company to arrange for the change in coverage. I was surprised to hear that there would be a huge premium and...

    St. Pete marinas

Thanks for all that information, very helpful, especially the point about reciprocity.

    St. Pete marinas

Thanks very much for this Brian. I hadn't discovered the Vinoy in my web research, but it looks very nice and exactly like the type of place we'd be interested in. If the moves firms up and becomes a reality, then I'll definitely follow-up with you to get more information.

    St. Pete marinas

We might be re-locating to St. Petersburg in a few months and would appreciate any information and advice regarding marinas in the Tampa/St. Pete area. We'd like to find a place that's more than just a place to dock the boat and has good social aspects and youth programs (e.g., fishing events...

    Water source

Thanks, I suspect there may be an issue with the pressure regulator. A bit of research shows that they are prone to issues.

    Water source

Thanks. I've done that but then the water pressure is pretty weak as compared to the water pressure with the pump on. Is that supposed to be the case?

    Water source

Basic question: when we're docked and hooked up to shore water, the water (faucets, head, shower) still seems to run off of the water tanks. The other day, the water tanks emptied and we couldn't get any water from the faucets, despite being connected to shore water. I must be doing something...

    Looking at a 2007 48 Sundancer

I can't say enough good things about the 48DA, we love ours (although that doesn't stop me from fantasizing about a 610...). We're departing Fri morning for about 10 days in Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket with 3 adults and 3 kids and it will sleep all comfortably. My two cents on your...

    500DA or 48DA

Ah, I missed where you said that the 2005 dry weight appears to be wrong on the website.

    500DA or 48DA

Right, just looked at the website and it says the dry weight of my 2008 is 34,250 lbs vs. 28,000 lbs for the 2005. I guess a 6,250 lb difference would explain a 1.5kt difference in speed.

    500DA or 48DA

I'm about 1.5 knots slower at 2250 RPM and WOT (about 2600 RPM for me) with a comparable load. Any idea why that would be?

    48DA generator won't start

Hey Mike. Did you check the raw water strainers to make sure they're not clogged up with seaweed? The generator won't start if it is.
