    Official 390 E.C. Thread

If you decide to go with the recliner, I would be interested in your sofa cushions. It's funny I was thinking about a recliner myself this weekend, but decided against it primarily due tot eh amount of room it would take up. I was thinking a better option might be to remove the wall to the...

    Tower opinions

I understand your desire for a quite zone and it doesn't look terrible :smt001. But I would not add it to mine, I think it looks out of place. Again just my opinion and don't mean to rain on your idea. Kevin

Whats your Boats name and what does it mean to you

Our first Cruiser was a 28' Carver named "Escape Pod" it was a place to escape from our hectic lives and as sci-fi fans we liked the tie-in. Lots of fun "jettison the Escape Pod" jokes. We sold the "Escape Pod" and purchased a 390EC it was apparent from the beginning that this big girl could...

    Battery charging query

I leave mine on 100% of the time. As long as the batteries are good and the charger is not malfunctioning it should charge them and shut off, it should not be frying your batteries. If you're boiling the water out at quarts over a couple of months something is wrong. I check my levels monthly...

Special trick to remove fuel filters?

Just a quick update and a thank you to everyone who replied. My filters do have a bolt on the top that holds it together. The 2 filters on the Starboard side had been changed and look to be in good shape, but the Port side filter was horrible, rusted and full of muddy looking thick sludge. I...

    Draining Oil from the engine..

If you are truly worried about the last bit of oil left in the pan with the dipstick extraction method, you can do what I do. Warm the engine might take longer than 20 min, might have to engage the trans to put a load on the engines to get them up to temp. After they reach temp, use your...

    Powerwash Engine Room

I used a wimpy electric power washer and simple green to clean my bilge. I just cleaned the bilge and did not spray the engines or any components, but it really allowed me to get under the engines and between the outside stringer and the hull better than I ever would with a brush and hose. I...

What size TV should we get?

I put a 19" with the built in DVD on my 28' and I felt it was about right. We bought the 390 and I put in a 32" and it was too big, pulled it out and wet to a 26" and it is just right. I never thought you could go too large with a TV until I put that 32" in the 390, now I know better.

    The boat of a lifetime...

I say buy it; if it is really your dream boat and you can afford it without putting yourself in trouble. The other toys will sell to replenish at least most of the money and then make a plan to replace the remainder. Of course I could just be saying that to make myself feel better about making...

Fuel filters on mine are the black body/orange top Fram units that have a cartridge in them The replacement cartridge is a Fram FBM110-PLM. Good luck changing them, I have been working on mine for a couple of months and still haven't got them them apart.

Special trick to remove fuel filters?

I checked and although there seems to be a place for bolts on the top of the housing none are installed. I am still not able to remove these filters. This is really stumping me. I have been doing all my own maintenance for 35+ years on cars, boats, motorcycles and these fuel filters have me...

Building a ramp from the dock to the boat

I needed a similar device and was planning on building it myself when I found this in the new Overton's catalog. http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Dockmate-Folding-Access-Platform-With-Safety-Handrail&i=39828 I installed it a couple of weeks ago it so far we love it...

    Poll to help new boaters

First cruiser was a 1990 Carver 2557, single Volvo 5.7 I/O. 5 weeks after purchase, complete motor failure; then 6 months to get it replaced, total cost ended up being 50% of purchase price. Lots of other repairs needed also, but I learned a lot about cruiser systems, ac/head/out...

Special trick to remove fuel filters?

I am trying to replace my fuel filters on my 1985 390EC with Crusaders 350 (454) gas engines. The fuel filters are mounted up high on the side of the engine compartment and I was told the housing unscrews and then you replace the element on the inside. I purchased the replacement elements so I...
