    268DA and Weekenders

Hey all- Quick question- I just purchased a Lowrance Elite-7 plotter/sounder and I want to transom mount the transducer. I have the lake dual transducer. I am in west end of lake Erie/Maumee river and I seldom boat in water over 30'. Is there anything boat specific about a transom position...

    268DA and Weekenders

I know how I almost lost mine. Had my gal throw out the anchor while trying to moor off Turtle Island in Lake Erie. Wind was crappy and there were other boats around so it was a touchy anchoring. She was on the bow and had limited (read 'no') boating experience. I had her let out lead and...

    84 255 AJ refrigerator problem

Trying to recall that 'disc'. lol Boat in storage so have to wait till next season. I think I recall that disc in the center all the way back on the burner top but I thought it was related to the alcohol function of stove and didn't try it. In my defense it was cold and rainy when I hooked it...

    84 255 AJ refrigerator problem

What little round thing near the burner? I had a trashed stove and replaced it with a combo used unit (alcohol & electric). Plugged it in but it didn't heat up so I left it for next season to troubleshoot. Don't recall any 'round thing' that would turn it on? Unless the big red wheels? lol

    AC Power not working

GFI's do go bad. If the main circuit breaker on the main board is in the 'ON' position and yet you can't reset the GFI, then you probably have a bad GFI or a short to ground somewhere distant. All GFI's have a design that 'fails' power when their circuitry goes bad. They just stop working...

    AC Power not working

I think you are confused. Your boat has two electrical systems that are more or less separate. One is the AC system 120v coming in from dockside. The other is the DC 12v system that your boat engine produces via the generator on it. The AC system utilizes circuit breakers while the DC system...

Just wanna drills holes and let it sink!!!!!!!!!

I'll be honest, I'm kinda lost here. Overheat? Did but now fixed? What got fixed? What was broke? Now, as I understand it, the present symptom is that the boat starts fine then hiccups (misses) at midrange then catches up and goes balls out 40mph? You need to state with precision exactly...

Just wanna drills holes and let it sink!!!!!!!!!

Before you do anything else verify that the engine is not toast. Check the compression on all the cylinders and they should ALL be within 10% of each other. I won't tell you how many times I've helped a friend troubleshoot a motor focusing on a fuel problem only to find out many dollars later...

    Hole in the Water Club

Welcome! Owned boats all my life but this summer bought my first 268DA Sundancer (1988') Had to buy a new outdrive which was unanticipated and also a new AC/Heat pump which I installed and which was anticipated. We use our Sundancer at the local Yacht club as an overnight cottage and the...

    PROPer Prop Size??

Don't go by speed, go by rpm. You want the size and pitch that just gives you your rated top rpm for the engine at WOT. General rule of thumb is up one pitch level for a 200rpm drop. So if your engine is rated at 4,500rpms and you are running a 15' pitch turning 4,700rpms at WOT, then go up...

    Having a boat survey done

After owning a number of boats I came to the following conclusion: I developed a relationship with a local experienced surveyor. Our agreement was for him to survey the deal-breakers first. In my case it was the engines and drive. He would survey until he felt something that was outside...

Height of Searay Sundancer 268DA with radar arch?

Trying to fit this sucker into a winter storage rack. Does anyone know the total height of the boat with a radar arch? There is nothing installed on top of the arch. Need to know before I yank it out of the water. Thanks in advance!

    PROPer Prop Size??

If it is an aftermarket from Stern Drive (probably Stern Drive Engineering SEI) they only make a 1.47:1 so that's what you have. If it is a Mercruiser it can be either a 1.32:1 or a 1.5:1. The original 1.32:1 is very difficult to find (unless someone rebuilt the drive). Mercruiser used the...

    268DA and Weekenders

Never noticed it on my 1988' 268DA. I have heard that walking in that area causes the side window frames to bend as they are weight bearing and not particularly good at it. This distortion of the side window frames allows water to leak in. Not sure if that has any relationship to your problem.

    PROPer Prop Size??

If you are hitting 35mph with your setup (gps, not onboard speedo) then you are running perfect and the problem is a bad tach. Fix the tach to make sure you are not exceeding 4,500rpm (you very well could with that prop) My larger diameter prop is so I can stay on plane at slower speeds...

    PROPer Prop Size??

I have the exact same boat a little heavier (has AC unit) The engine was rebuilt 20 hours ago. It has a new 1.47:1 stern drive on it. If yours is original it has the 1.32:1 ratio. Your original equipment prop was an aluminum 15.25x15" which should let you turn 4400-4500rpms with that...

What's the proper procedure to start a cold engine?

Agreed. I turn the blowers on as the very first thing I do at the docks (to clear out lingering gas fumes and avoid an explosion). Then after a few minutes I start the engine and let it idle while I go through everything that needs to be undone prior to departure. That way the motor idles a...

    Official (1982-1988) 270DA Thread

I just noticed this post. I see you plumbed your condensation pan directly out the side of the boat. I wonder if you have a check valve installed? To guard against water flow from outside the boat coming in and flooding the boat should the thru-hull get near the water line level.

    Looking at 1998 268 sundancer

The price sounds right if they warranty the motor for problems after the rebuild. If they did it themselves they might take shortcuts to get it out and sold cheap. I would figure you'll need a replacement outdrive at some near point. Which would still make it a good buy ($1,300 for new stern...

    Looking at 1998 268 sundancer

Bought same exact year and boat with 7.4L Mercrusier engine. The biggest weakness in this boat is the Alpha 1 outdrive. It wasn't robust enough for the 7.4L engine. Searay only made the high end engine combo for a couple years before switching to the more robust Bravo stern drive. This...
