Any Lake Lanier boaters on here?

Did anyone happen to see the craft that went kablooey on Sunday? Three hurt, one of them a child. Sad situation. Was the usual mayhem up north Saturday and Sunday. The skiers were using anchored boats as ski buoys with no regard for wake whatsoever. Had to move several times to find a...

Any Lake Lanier boaters on here?

Wow, what a circus it was on the lake this weekend. Lots of boat traffic, lots of folks who forgot how to operate a boat, a lot of near misses, and one hit and run. Fun, fun This is why I really enjoy the lake during the week and try to avoid Summer weekend boating. A little too crazy...

    Boating Season in Atlanta

Yep, there has been a lot of floating debris in the lake for the last two months as water levels have recovered. With all the rain headed our way (Thursday night) there will be even more this weekend along with a lot more boaters. I would imagine more will unfortunately encounter what you did...

Any Lake Lanier boaters on here?

Was on the lake all day yesterday. Great weather, not much traffic other than the usual bass boaters. Lots of debris including some pretty sizable logs in the water, however, the new water level (1066) made passing through some areas much easier. This is the highest the lake has been in quite...

    Sad day today :(

Drive Showers, Are They Worth It?

I found a cheap way to monitor the drive temperature when on plane without risk of losing one’s hand. http://www.amazon.com/Maverick-ET-7-Remote-Check-Wireless-Thermometer/dp/B00004SZ10 Great for cooking too... Doc

Drive Showers, Are They Worth It?

I know there are many posts on the mysterious drive oil loss in Merc outdrives. I am topping off my reservoir from time to time but I am not getting any oil in the bilge and never see an oil slick behind the boat. I am not running on plane for hours and I never see steam when coming off plane to...

2008 260 Sundancer with Genset and A/C - Contemplating Purchase

Price wise they are right on target - I paid the same for a 2007 260DA with 80 hours. I would have them change all the fluids, service the generator, and clean all filters. I would not assume that all mechanicals are perfect even with 80 hours. You may not need a full survey done, but a full...

    Dock Queens

The reason for the post was not to gloat. In fact, a few months back I purchased a Dock Queen - a 2007 260DA with 80 hours on it. I paid less than half what the original owner did for the boat. When you net it out, the boat cost him about $800/hour sans dock fees and insurance to operate. And...

    Dock Queens

Every marina has them - boats that never seem to leave their slip. I am sure the reasons are many - not enough time, too expensive, lost interest, too much effort, etc. How often are you on the water and what keeps you away from enjoying the open water on your pride and joy? Just curious... Doc

Any Lake Lanier boaters on here?

DTS would not be a deal breaker, however, the value of the boat is only headed south. Cruisers in the 28 to 32 range are selling pretty well on Lanier if you believe the brokers. There are not a lot of these available for sale at the moment. Of course that will change in October - November. I...

Any Lake Lanier boaters on here?

Was $219,000 and is listed through Singleton. That’s a lot of boat for Lanier, and will most certainly continue to drop in price. The 40 range is a tough market. Doc

Any Lake Lanier boaters on here?

When you’re tooling along at 30 mph and the depth gauge reads 4 ft all the sudden you pray it’s an error. There are several areas on the lake that can be quite a surprise. (Will be out tomorrow to scare the crap out of myself again.) Fortunately the lake seems to be hold its own at the moment...

Any Lake Lanier boaters on here?

With all the rain in the upper Chattahoochee basin of late, why is Lanier only at 1062? The lake is down a foot since July 4th. Has anyone ever figured out what the CoE is doing and why? Doc

260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

KP49: I have the same hull and year. I've found that running with 1/3 water tank and 1/2 gas tank will get you on plane quicker. Also, the 1/3 water tank helps with the port list once on plane. 98% of the time I operate without any trim tab. I have spoken with a few 260 owners who went with...

    Replacement VHF For Northstar

wyrman: Just went through the same drill. My Northstar NS100POS when TU on my 260DA. Replaced it with a Standard Explorer GX1700W GPS unit. Flush mounted the unit (2.82"H x 5.39W) on the left side of the helm below the ignition/remote stereo gauge set. I used a blank to cover the Northstar POS...

Interlux VC 17 vs Sea Hawk Silver Bullet vs Ablative

I realize that VC 17 and Silver Bullet are not the same animal as an ablative bottom coat, however, has anyone switched to VC 17 or Silver Bullet for freshwater applications? If so, have you been happy with its performance and durability? Would you go back to an ablative? Thanks for any input. DG

260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

Thanks for all the input. The decision was pretty easy after negotiating price - it pays not to be emotionally attached to something before you buy. Cinnabar it is... for the moment... It's nice to be back on the water! DG
