I would take it out for a ride. Those engines have a bad rep. However my dad has a single 470 from 1977 it runs great. Did alt conversion about 10 yrs ago. A couple of coils over the years and thats it. Those engines are light weight and have alot of torque.

think there are two solenoids one on the starter one external. Not sure where its located if I remember correctly mine was back by the starter and underneath exhaust manifold. looking from front to back of boat on left side. Hope it helps.

Does it have an external ignition coil? If so buy a new one. I would recommend an cheap automotive one probably $25. If that fixes it you can buy marine one. Alot more $$$. I had a problem with mine this yr on my merc 228. My dad also had a problem with his merc 470 two years ago. both...

Just a guess, but i would think they are the same size as on mercruiser block. You may need to run a tap through the holes to clean up the threads.

looks good. That thing has quite the bow rail.

I would repair it or get it repaired you can always sell it after a few years use for more than you have in it.

I dont know about actual temp but should be I would guess warm/hot to touch. 130 F or so. At least mine are.
