Hi Folks, Haven't posted for about a year, but we bought a 1989 DA last year which had a few problems, but got some good boating in on the intracoastal near sebastian, fl.' I'm planning on doing a few improvements as posted on this site, but this year spent almost a week getting the boat sea...

High Oil Pressure in Merc 5.7

Thanks for your comments. Someone else suggested the HD is cleaning up the engine and plugging up the filter, so that seems like the place to start. Andy

High Oil Pressure in Merc 5.7

I changed the oil in my (new) 1989 SeaRay with 2005 5.7 Chevy V8. The old oil was thin and used looking and I replaced it with # 40 HD. Naturally the oil pressure came up slightly from 50 to 60 lbs. It stayed at 60 for several trips (~25 hrs), but now has INCREASED to 70 lbs. Has anyone...

Should I wet sand or start with Buff Magic or maybe Presta Supercut?

I used the presta super cut on the heavily oxidized red section of my SeaRay and it worked very well. (Buff magic didnt touch it.) I didnt seem to be burning through the gel coat with the presta (1800 rpm with moderate pressure). I had previously tried a 3 m product (1000 grit removal) and...

    Buff Magic

Good luck with harbor freight with buffers. I recently started my gel coat restoration and was using various grits of compound. I blew up 3 different harbor freight buffers (2 drill masters and 1 Chicago) in less than a week. This cost me time and milage (20) running back to the store for...

    Buff Magic

Thanks for the tip. I had to drive about 30 miles to get the supercut, but it did the job. I didnt want to get into wet sanding. I went over the boat with super cut and removed the oxide- Now am going over again with 3M 1900 grit scratch removal which seems to clean up any haze that I missed...

    Buff Magic

I have a sundancer 220 with heavily oxidized maroon trim (about a 8" to 1 foot strip under the gunnel. I bought the Buff Magic because the 3m heavy compound was slow going. I also bought a rotary buffer because the orbital was slower than hand. To my surprise the Buff Magic didnt seem to work...

New Member from Florida with 220 Sundancer

Hi Quint. I was checking out the website you recommended. I was interested primarily in the stern seat in the cavity and had a couple of questions. 1) Is the way you installed the rearmost seat basically the way that Searay originally had it? 2) Did you buy the pontoon "swing seat" and modify...

What's the furthest distance you have traveled in your boat...

Hi. The longest trip was from our Marina in Sebastian Fl. to the first lock to Okeechobee and return in one day (120 miles RT) We did this in an open 18 foot Larson bow rider. The boat was safe enough on the intracoastal, but the constant slap of the chop gets to you after a while. That why we...

Just bought a 1989 Sundancer 220 with 2005 engine. We had most everything spruced up-Prop rebuild, new carb, upgrade thermostat housing, exhaust flappers, bilge pump etc. Diane and I are planning on doing a lot on the Florida Intracoastal around Sebastian-Vero-Melbourne area. Do you still have...

New Member from Florida with 220 Sundancer

Hi Quint, Thanks for the thread-lots of good stuff there. The pic you sent(and similar ones in the thread) show about what I want. There is not much room in back for a permanent wrap around. Are these seats custom made, or recovered from old boats and upgraded? Do you have sources to...

New Member from Florida with 220 Sundancer

Diane and I just bought a 1989 Sundancer/Overnighter. We have only taken it on a test ride so far, but intend on trips down the Florida intracoastal. The boat is in good shape and has a 2005 5.7 with updated thermostat housing, carb, wires etc. A couple of week with the polish should do the...
