The factory painted plywood anchor hatch that came with our 1980 SRV 240 rotted out several years ago and I am looking to replace it. I currently have a plastic replacement hatch in place just to fill the hole (Thanks Jim). I would like to make a nice lacquered teak wood hatch instead to match...
The engine model just says Mercruiser 260, the serial # is 5285467
Just wondering which ignition upgrade kit I should get and if I am going to have problems if I upgrade.
Thanks again for everyone's help and suggestions,
Robert
So is it possible to make the switch to an electronic ignition in my boat without creating a bunch of problems? What you are describing sounds exactly like what the mechanic was talking about. I am not wanting to fix one problem and create a bunch of new ones. I am just tired of dealing with the...
First post in 6 years LOL. I have a 1979 Sea Ray SRV 240 with a Mercruiser 260 and I am going to be working on it to get it back to sea worthy. I wanted to upgrade the factory points style ignition system in it. I talked to my local boat shop today and the mechanic said that it couldn't be...
Yep those are the rails I was talking about! As always Jim you are a wealth of information! Jim had a 1978 SRV 240 just like yours that he did an entire restoration on, similar to mine. He did a top notch job as well! He has been a great help to me will info on things that I wasn't sure about...
I will pull the cover off the boat and take a few photos this weekend providing it isn't pouring rain LOL. You are just wanting to know how the rear seats are mounted/setup? Looking at your photo, it looks like it is missing the teak platform rail on the engine cover. There is one on both sides...
I am just about to start buying the exhaust parts to fix my screw up from last winter. I did the math to figure out the total cost of all the old style log manifold parts and found it was only a little less money then the upgrade to center riser kit.
Has anyone done this upgrade? They say it is...
Thank you all for the really helpful responses! Unfortunately I have been swamped since I ran the boat a week ago and haven't had time to do any trouble shooting yet. I'll post here when I find something out.
Robert
I ran the motor at pretty high idle for around 10 minutes when I was first trying to figure out what was wrong with the idle and if there was an exhaust leak. That's when I checked the oil and tried running it without the water.
The thermostat housing cap has a fitting that has a brass plug in...
Yes now that the boat is in the colder desert temps for half the year during the winter time, I most definitely need to learn the drain plug locations. Does anyone own an older 260 merc that could help locating them on the motor?
You guys have been a great help with all the info so far,
Robert
Checking the dipstick for milky oil was the first thing I did. The oil looks fine and I didn't see any water in the bilge. The boat does have a cover on it. As far as the altitude, I'm at around 2600 feet and it did run really well when I first brought it to the new house. Unfortunately the boat...
I own a 1979 SRV 240 with a Mercruiser 260. The boat was stored in Oxnard CA. when I received it and I had it stored there for a couple of years while I worked on it. It was running great when I moved it to my new house in the high desert. I ran the boat right after I towed it home with no...
Thank you very much for the reply! Yeah what you are describing sound exactly like my wing window. I was figuring it slid in but I wanted to be sure before I started trying to pull the window frame out, just to find out it goes in another way. I am not sure how I am gonna get the window to pull...
Unfortunately both of the plastic window keepers on my side wing window broke off and during tow the window swung open. When I went to shut the window when we stopped, the window fell off in my hand! I am just glad it didn't fall out when I was driving. I tried to re-install the window last week...
I had a concrete RV storage area created at the side of my new house and I am now going to be storing the boat there during the winter and moving it to storage in Channel Islands during the mid spring through late fall. It just didn't make sense to pay for the winter storage at the harbor. The...
I am pleased to say that I am almost done with my Sea Ray SRV 240 restoration! I went ahead and took NH Tooner's advise and just purchased some Sunbrella fabric that I liked and used that to recover the interior seats in the cabin. I was really blown away how strong this fabric is! The...
Very nice to see someone else restoring a SRV 240! There are so few of these boats left that are water worthy. Most of the ones you see around the net are in boat salvage yards. :smt009 I am almost done restoring mine. I posted a couple of threads on it here at CSR in classic sea rays as well...
Ok I installed the new boat seats and I only have a few more things left to do before I will be pretty much done with a majority of the boat restoration. I still need to pick up a GPS/Fishfinder. I have the old fish finder which is pretty much brand new but it is from the late 70ies and a pretty...
Thanks for all the nice comments and yeah I figured it would be a lot cooler to have the boat looking more like the factory setup and so far it is pretty close to stock. The only thing I am changing unfortunately is the drivers and main passenger seat. I wasn't a huge fan of the way the stock...
