Help High levels of soot in engine oil sample. ???

When was the last time oil was changed? Does the boat reach at least , if not over, rated RPM? Soot is a by product of unburned fuel. As the report states, boat could have been run in an overloaded state for long periods which MAY reduce life of engine. Reading the report, it tells you what...

    CAT ELC vs. Rotella ELC

…and they also sell DCA/SCA in a bottle you can add to coolant OR pre-charged in coolant filters (if you are so equipped) so in the event you can't find CAT coolant you can use the 'other brand' that is accredited and add the SCA/DCA if needed. Because something is better than nothing.

    CAT ELC vs. Rotella ELC

It is ok to mix if you have to but the important thing to remember is to not mix type of antifreeze, not brands. Dexcool, ethylene glycol and the green propylene glycol should never be mixed and when changing from one to the other the system needs to be flushed to avoid sludging of the coolant...

    Underwater LED lights

I have the Seablaze X and the random fade is a nice feature. Those of you that have OCD, look elsewhere but once you install them it is a really cool effect especially in super clean water, dark water all UW lights suck. On larger boats that have multiple lights around the perimeter there is a...

Any opinion on Cummins in Tampa ?

QSB's engines are parent bore engines and don't require SCA in the coolant but a good diesel rated low silicate will function just fine. So don't be surprised if it has none.

    USCG approved electronic charts

Most people don't know how to navigate using paper charts. Sure, they tell me where the inlet is and what to avoid but do they know exactly where they are on the map? If you don't have a sextant on board, it is going to be very difficult if not impossible for any recreational boater to tell me...

    Got rod holders?

You could explain it, but they still wouldn't get it.

Night vision products (not including FLIR or thermal imaging)

Do you have radar on the boat? That is the number 1 for spotting all of the above if you know how to use it especially on ICW where it is typically flat. Set to 1/2 mile, turn up gain until you are just below total washout and you are set to detect almost anything in front, side, and behind you...

    Petit Barnacle barrier

This is interesting. If you apply additional zinc coating to your props, shafts, etc does this change the amount of useable zinc that is on your boat? In other words, you transom, shaft (if you have them) tabs zincs are there to protect you underwater metals from corrosion. To little and the...

    Got rod holders?

I love how people mock the things they don't understand.

    Pro Nautic battery charger issue

I had a 15 year old Charles Alternator Regulator acting up, Charles repaired it for free after 15 years. I have 2 of them on my boat and the second one was also acting up a year later, cost $150 to fix but they fixed it, no problem. Look into them as well.

CSR Bahamas Rendezvous (Spring Break 2016)

I haven't heard anything like that but might be worth to call them and ask if they are operational. I know of several sport fish boats that were there last, going this week etc and they aren't worried but then again, they hold a couple thousand gallons of fuel so not an issue. Fresh fuel ? in...

Are you over 50? .........read this.

Dock buddy of mine is a sports doctor that helps with many of the professional sports teams in the area and beyond actually. I think he was at one of the LSU games talking to someone from there about helping whatever, don't really know the details obviously. BUT, dock talk one night was about...

Drunk. High. And a sea ray (Multi-page thread 1 2)

Name calling….pretty typical I guess. Not sure why you thought you had to attack but some people just can't get along with others. I will assume you didn't read my first post. Shoe looking boats? Might want to take a look at the 390 and 480MY, if you want to talk about shoes.

Drunk. High. And a sea ray (Multi-page thread 1 2)

Ahhh no. Ever priced out a 34 Yellowfin or Contender? Especially one that has all the electronics on it, expensive and they hold their value much better than a SeaRay. Problem with SeaRay is exactly what has been said here, so many of them drives the price way down. Neighbor is trying to sell...

Drunk. High. And a sea ray (Multi-page thread 1 2)

I have owned 2 Sundancers, 280 and 320, and now own a fishing boat, Tiara. I think the perception of singling out one type of boat to be obnoxious is just incorrect and just plain ignorant. Why can't people that enjoy the same 'basic'activity just get along? On our dock, we have sportfishing...

Garmin mobile does not have the explorer chart pack from what I understand, only on the older preloaded charts and the chips for purchase the ideal data. From what I understand anyway.
