Hi Irie,
Figured I'd add my 2c worth as I've just made the move from a shaft drive to IPS Riviera.
Build quality on their newer boats is excellent and I asked a lot of people with hands on experience about the IPS before buying. The feedback from the mechanics working on them everyday was...
Hi Craig, I'm just around the corner from you at Saratoga. Small world. Had a Sea Ray until just recently when we swapped for a Riviera. Do you keep yours at Gosford?
Paul
I had a 48DA beforehand so moved from a Sundancer to a flybridge. The main reason was having kids and a lounge room with a view became a priority. We have a baby gate where the main door is and our toddler can run and dance around the lounge room burning off energy without us having to worry...
Are you looking at buying new? They are highly regarded here in Australia. The new ones look nice and they've stuck with shaft drives whereas Riviera have really focused on Pod drives up to 60ft.
This is exactly what happened to me. I went over the engines as best as I could and ended up just taking the extra 1/2" out of the prop showing the higher load.

Thanks for the replies. I've had experience with MANs before and do have an authorised service centre about an hour away. I agree the QSMs would be preferred so I might just wait for the right one to come up if the deal on the MANs boat isn't worthwhile.
Thanks for the replies. In that case, it looks like the salt water service will be a painful job. One of the boats I'm looking at has MANs so aftercoolers and heat exchangers are to be serviced every 2 years.
Thanks,
Paul
Hi,
Have tried searching but haven't found the answer. Considering moving from the 48DA to a 500 or 52DB as it probably suits how we boat better now. Is there much involved in lifting the lounges & saloon floor for good access to the engines? Access to the outside of the engines looks like it...
Yes, one of the best features of the boat and we would be lost without it. Perfectly clean for drinking. We go out once a year for two weeks straight and have done that without the 48 touching a dock. We just use the tender when we need to go to shore. We can hose the boat, have long showers...
Unfortunately, I can't help with this. But I am interested to know how it's done, mine's fairly rusty. No doubt I'll be looking to replace it soon enough.
Hi Rusty,
I did notice your other thread about the props. My understanding with modern diesels is they use x amount of diesel to produce a given amount of horsepower whether that horsepower is produced at 2200rpm or 2400rpm. In other words you should use the same amount of diesel to cruise at...
From what I have read here and boatdiesel.com the main cause for 480CEs dropping valves is over-propping causing EGTs that are too high. If this boat is still running the props fitted by Sea Ray it will almost certainly need 1-2" of pitch taken out to bring the loads back to Cummins specs. It...
Mine just shows "Go to first unread message". I'm hovering over the text, not the little dot. Chrome on Windows 10.
Also, I'm still having the same issues with the Signature mentioned above.
Other than that. All looks great.
Thanks,
This sounds like the same failure that has occurred a bit on the 48DA. This post probably describes best what is involved. They chose to remove the engine however I know a friend of mine had this issue and completed the repair in the water without removing the engine. It's tight but possible on...
