    Running without a thermostat...

If you are already running hot with no stat than I think you have restricted or inadequate flow. Adding a t-stat will not solve this problem. Assuming you have an alpha, when was the last time you changed the impeller in the drive? Sounds like low flow to me. Your t-stat is a variable...

    Coolant in Manifold

Is there something wrong with your heat exchanger? Is it plugged up or something? You shouldn't have to replace that, and if the water side is dirty you can chemically clean it. You most certainly want to keep this setup.

Aftermarket Wakeboard Towers – Recommendations and Pictures

Check out the Big Air H2O tower. it is a tall tower and wide at the top. I am thinking it will fit around my bimini, so it might fit around yours. It is on sale right now too.

    Alpha 1 help needed

Shouldn't be a problem to just adapt to the correct size assuming you can find the right fittings. The trim pump is only concerned with holding pressure, not moving a large volume of fluid in a short period of time.

need help-220 Sundeck-anyone have this problem?

The IAC is the Idle Air Control valve. It sends extra air around the throttle plates when they are closed to control the idle speed. It is common to have problems with them, and the replaceent is a very simple repair. Lots of info on this site about it.

1998 Throttle Body Injection Fuel Pressure Test

My truck has a 1995 TBI engine that I put a stroker kit in. The only way to get a pressure reading was to cut the fuel line and install a tee. I am not sure this would be a good idea on a boat because the consequences of a leak are much higher. Trace your fuel line from the TBI back to the...

    Nauticus Smart Tabs SX

I just put the stainless ones on my boat also. I am very impressed with the difference they made. I think the horsepower is not an issue, but you can give them a call to be sure.

Heart transplant 3L to 4.3V6, has it been done before on a 180

Yes, the gear ratios are different, but only the gears in the upper unit are different. All lower alpha's are the same. I am sure the motor mounts are different also.

How to get 80 Ft of mast under a 65 Ft bridge,

Probably the length of the ropes with the weights on it is less than the bridge. If they touch the water you know you are good.

The playoff games this weekend have been great (with one notable exception).

Tebow is not a rookie. This was his second year. McDaniels drafted him.

Trust me, he is not the only one. I have been asked before if I needed a green card to get across the Texas border.

Alpha 1 Gen 2 - Ticking sound when turning prop by hand

Very odd diagnosis by a mercruiser mechanic because if the drive is out of gear, the gimbal bearing doesn't turn when you spin the prop. I had the same thing on my boat. Your shift cable is out of adjustment.

    Confirming temp gauge

The temperature on the outside surface of the thermostat housing will not be the same as the fluid inside. I have placed my hand on many of them and if the engine is running normal it does not scald. My point was you should be able to feel the temperature of the engine changing if the gauge is...

    Confirming temp gauge

I had another thought on this. A temperature swing from 170 to 220 is a lot of heat. You should be able to feel that with your hand on the thermostat housing where your sending unit is.

    Confirming temp gauge

Normal just depends on what thermostat you have. If you have a 160, then the motor should run there or slightly above. 3 seconds to rise from 170 to 220 still seems fairly fast for an actual rise, but it is not out of the question. If you raise the engine RPM without the boat in gear, say...

    Confirming temp gauge

If by rapidly you mean it "jumps" almost instantly between 170 and 220 than this is most certainly a gauge or sending unit problem. It is highly unlikely the actual temperature of the block and/or manifolds can change that quickly. If it is a more gradual increase and decrease of temperature...

    Hydrofoil

Sorry. That mechie is full of crap. I ran a whale tail on my previous boat for 6 years without a problem. We spend most of the time sking and boarding putting lots of stress on the drive and trim. No problems. My opinion is they are worth it on smaller boats and don't make a difference on larger...
