    DC Electrical Problem

Oops I missed a sentence there. It was a little late when I posted that.:wow: These symptoms dont make sense to me. Even if there was a breaker in the system between the batteries and the fuse block/junction block, the house systems wouldnt work at all. Tjsolberg, just to clarify one more time...

Mercruiser Alpha I gear lube kits?

I dont think that you will be able to add a gear lube monitor to that alpha one. If I remember right, there is no checkball in between the outdrive and the bellhousing on that year alpha. The gear lube monitor kits were available on Gen II alphas (early 90's).

    DC Electrical Problem

Check the water level in the batteries. If they are dry, most likely you will have to replace them. A load test will determine that. Ive seen plenty of batteries that show 12 volts on a meter but what really matters is the amperage that they have available to operate any systems.

    Port engine overheating?

First thing I would do is check the condition of the intake holes on the lower unit. It could be possible that you have blockage covering up the intake holes.

Thanks for the greetings everyone. Actually I havent made it as far as Lake Mead yet. The furthest north that I have been is Lake Mohave. I try to make a couple trips a year to Mohave but the majority of my boating is in Lake Havasu and here locally in Long Beach or Newport Beach.

280 Underpowered with twin 4.3L Alpha drives?

The majority of 280 Sea Rays that I have worked on are equipped with the twin 4.3L setup. Although I have seen 280's equipped with a single 8.1L, 7.4L(pe-2002) and twin 5.0L. Are you having trouble getting on plane? What is your top speed?
