Check out the above link. They are recommending 20-40W full synthetic for my engine the 6.2 horizon. I would follow their recommendation for two reasons: I haven't seen this specific viscosity offered in mineral...
You can get Mercury full synthetic here for about $29/gallon. This is what I would use.

Just purchased a cover from Fred Fisher of Fisher Canvas out of Burlington NJ. He came to my marina and measured my boat since he had not done one before. He has done lots of work for Staten Island Boat sales up the street from our club and I thought the cover he delivered looked well made. I...
Thanks Scott,
I'm going to let Marine Max do the winterization and I will ask the tech about it too. I don't want to torch my impeller or flood the innards of my engine so I will wait and get a confirmation of how to do this from him. I figure the money I'm paying them will serve as a fee...
Scott,
Found the trans filter online for $47 for the stock one, or one thats magnetic(fuzzbuster it was called) for $59 that seemed like a nice upgrade. Also, was wondering if you can use standard synthetic Dexron III made for automotive apps or does it have to be a special marine version...
Skolbe, Scott,
Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to tackle those transmissions myself. Maybe the whole winterization if I don't hear back from MM soon. Where do you guys buy your parts online, like these trans filters, or say a workshop manual for engines or boat? Those fat books...
I just got a price on an oil and filter change from my local MM dealer who sold me the boat and the price was quoted first at $540 then they came back saying it was $710. This sounded crazy and they claimed the filter kit for both trannies was a total of $253 with the 12 quarts of so of ATF...
Just bought a 2008 290 AJ last week with 6.2 and V-drives and took it from Hyannis, Mass 225 miles to Staten Island. At times we were 40 miles off Rhode Island and about 25 from Block Island out in open water and the day we went we had good 4-5 foot head seas. The boat took it well but we had...
Just got my new toy that I have been lusting after for 5 years. It wasnt until they put the hardtop on in '08 that I really fell in love with this boat. Mine has 6.2 Horizons which I didnt know you could even get in this boat. The boat is loaded with Raymarine electronics(C120)with Radar and...
Mike and Cathy,
I'd love to hear your opinions about the 450EB. I read xplorers travelogue but he didnt go into much detail about the boat and its functionality, fuel usage, rough water handling and other things like the options you have and what you like or dont like about the boat. Thanks...
I can't make up my mind. Should I go for a nice 2005 420DB like the one pictured here, or the object of my "recent" desire below, a 370EC. They sure had a lot of them in this marina. More dough then I can really afford but as they say "you only live once"
Figured out the photobucket. Heres...
No wonder why they're telling folks not to come back to their homes yet. I wondered about the statistic that says most injuries come after the storm. Looking at these pictures you can see why. Anyone who goes into that mess now would surely be putting themselves in harm's way.
I have a carbuerated 330hp 454ci in my 93 270 WE which is about 5400 lbs dry. I get about 2 MPG at 3000 RPM which is a good cruise at about 28-30 knots. Keeping your drive trimmed properly helps MPG too.
Is there a size beyond which covering it yourself becomes unpractical? What about 41 feet by 14 foot beam? I think bigger boats present a bigger problem when it comes to DIY covers. This got me thinking about how to cover my intended new boat a 2000 370EC. This at least has a hartop that...
What about a used boat? I am looking at boats in the $150k to 180k range, a 2000 370EC to be exact. I would love to make a deal now, but I cant until spring due to financial limitations that will disappear in the spring. I was wondering if the market will still be soft for boats in this price...
