    Runs hot at idlle

I removed both bellows from the top of the Y pipes and there are no shutters there. I think on an old engine like mine (1977) they are way down deep in the y pipe. I don't have my service manual yet so I can't be sure. Jeff

    Trailer tire advise

Thank you everyone for all of the vaulable advise. From what I've read here and on other forums getting from point a to point b with a trailer without problems is kind of rare. Anyway, the frame plate with all of the specs for the trailer has long since faded away. The tires on it look bad...

    Runs hot at idlle

Hi Ken, That's a scary thought. I think my shutters are not servicible unless the engine is pulled. Yikes! I guess I'll start figuring out if I can diagnose if that is the problem. I don't have any clicking noises. Other than that I don't know what to look for yet. Anyway, this old boat is...

    Runs hot at idlle

Thanks for the follow-up info. I definitely can't keep my hand on the manifolds. I will start checking into the pre-detonations thing in the spring. That sounds like a good lead. Thanks. In case you missed my original posting, the risers and manifolds are new this month. They have zero hours. Jeff

    Trailer tire advise

I'm planning to replace 4 rotten trailer tires next spring. I bought the old Load-Rite galvanized double axle trailer and it came with F78-14 ST tires. I forgot to check the load rating. I don't know if they are the right ones or not. I have '77 SRV 240 WE that is listed at 4400 lb...

    Runs hot at idlle

Thank you to everyone who is making suggestions. I'll try and get a picture of of the T-state housing next weekend. The stat is definitely in correctly. I do plan on testing the t-stat in hot water. I took a chance that being brand new that it would function. Maybe I lost that gamble. Circ...

    Torque for manifolds & risers

Hi: I just replaced the manifolds and risers on my 350 mercruiser. I torqued them at 30 ft/lbs by mistake. The service manual I have says 20 ft/lbs for the manifolds and didn't specify the risers Should I: A. Back them off and re-torque at 20, or B. Not worry about it? If I do back them off...

is mixing starting & deep cycle batteries ok?

Hi , I'm replacing the two batteries in my new-to-me 1977 240 weekender. It has a 260 Mercruiser. When I got it it had 2 type 24 starting batteries. Is it ok to put one starter & one deep cycle in? Do I really need a starter battery or could/should I go with two deep cylces? There is a battery...

Can I test run my i/o with outboard tank?

I just bought a 1977 240 weekender with 260 mercruiser that I haven't run. I'm not counting on it running but I'm hopeful! PO reports that it ran good wen it was winterized & stored 3 years ago. It has about a 1/2 tank of the 3 year old old gas in it. When Spring comes and I start it...
