    1981 245 SDC- Refurbish

I'd LOVE to see that boat with an MPI 350 in it!! Just for the heck of it, did you happen to check the distributor on that engine? My advance was sticky, and the whole inside of it was pretty ratty. It would barely snap back when I advanced it by hand. I happend on a new Mallory points...

    1981 245 SDC- Refurbish

Very nice boat! I have an 81 245 SRV and love it. Pretty nimble and stable for its size. Had the same issue with the advance, and a whole lot of other issues too, but still love the boat. I bought another boat and my 245 had been hauled out for about 2 weeks now, and am missing her already...

81 Sea Ray 225 running problems.

You've got an issue that can be caused by a miriad of things. Has the boat sat for a long time? If it's stalling at idle, I would check the easy things first, i.e., fuel filter/water seperator, fuel filter inside your carb, etc. If all is well there, then check the next obvious issues -...

Runs 2 hours and then quits.

You may or may not have an external resistor, but on my '81, it's a brown wire that runs off the coil, then back down thru the wiring harness, folds up a few times, etc., then stops (or at least from what I remember it does). That is supposed to be the resistor. Anyhow, I had the same issue...

    1983 Sea Ray 245 Sundancer

I don't get on too much any more, but welcome, and nice 245! I have an '81, and we love it! I haven't done too awful much in the way of customizing or restoring anything, except for my helm, with new gauges, etc. Redid the back bench seat, as there was some rot, etc. Had a few...

Info on getting v berth reupholstered

I should've mentioned that my cushions are just material wrapped over the foam then stapled to a plywood base. Then there's these little button things with long thread on them that go thru the foam, thru a small driilled hole in the plywood base. They're pulled a bit, then stapled to the...

Info on getting v berth reupholstered

I'm not sure what someone would charge you, but foam can get very pricey - and expect to pay full list price for the material, upwards of $20 a yard. I found a lady locally who does furniture upholstery. If it's for a boat, you're on your own, and have to bring her all the materials. So, up...

    helm control panel redo

I actually gave those led strip lights a try and they worked pretty good. I have a little bit of an "overhang" on my helm, so I just put a 6" strip of white in, and ran the wires/switch. Didn't last long in a marine environment but just wanted to give a try. As for the identification plates, I...

Boat wiring starting to drive me crazy! 2 Batts/2 Engine/ the more research I do s__t

Re: Boat wiring starting to drive me crazy! 2 Batts/2 Engine/ the more research I do Glad you found something. I was thinking of going with some kind of isolator and all that, because I have a stereo amp that could suck volts out of a brick. Wanted to upgrade my alternator and all that, but...

    Motor swap

My neighbor did it. Monsterous pain in the ass. Then he had to swap drives, to match up to the engines. Not sure about the engine grid and all that, but I imagine that putting a V8 where a 4 once sat would require some mods or some new/different parts.

Last Ride Of The Season - Question on Lifter Noise

Not sure - it's an '81. It WOULD be fun to build that 327, wouldn't it? It's got a Carter AFB Carb on it that makes my Rochester look like an old 1 barrel LOL As I rememebr, that old engine used a LOT of gas! I'm sure my block is nowhere near like yours; it's just the run of the mill Merc...

Last Ride Of The Season - Question on Lifter Noise

Steve, this is definitely a lifter issue (well, it looks as if everything points to that anyway). We checked the exhaust manifold for tell-tale signs of leakage and didn't really find anything. Of course, when you're on your head, bent in 16 different angles over a running engine it's a bit...

    Decals 1987 270 Sundancer

Do a search on ebay for "sea ray decal", and you'll be sitting there for hours trying to decide which ones to get... Most sellers will adjust the size and color pretty much to anything you want.

Last Ride Of The Season - Question on Lifter Noise

Took my last ride today, to the launch. Ugh. Can feel the depression setting in already. Gonna have to figure out what I'm gonna do till next April. Anyhow, long story VERY short, rebuilt engine 2 seasons ago, and had 1 lifter giving me fits. Shop said everything mic'd out on the very low...

    Couple of winter projects

Found the pic, but I gotta get up on photobucket. After really getting in to how my boat is wired I think I'd just do a new wiring harness and be done with it. Then cut the junk out and toss it.

    Couple of winter projects

Oddly enough, everything's pretty much "factory" under there, with the exception of a few fuse holders that were replaced. I did note a few wires were replaced, but there is really nothing all that bad, except where one of the p.o's wired up the vhf radio - there's like 5 extra feet of wire...

    Couple of winter projects

I fear I don't have much leeway in making anything any different. Looks like I'll probably stick with my original idea, but maybe move the "fuse only" stuff down to a seperate box under the helm (cabin lights/cig lighter/trim tabs/ignition). That would free up some room and enable me to at...

    Couple of winter projects

Newwiremarine is that place where they have the toggle switches with the custom panels (under toggle switches & accessories) , I emailed them for dimensions, and they're 1-1/4Hx1W. I think if I just replaced my switches with those, and did nothing else, my panel would look ridiculous. The...
