Thanks, Voldad. I'll try that. I noticed that the engine with the alarm was idling around 500 rpm instead of the usual 600 ish. Wonder if this is related?

Thanks for responding, old-thirty-three! You're spot on. It is two beeps per minute. All fluids, pressures, and temps show up as normal on the Smartcraft system. It sounds like it's a bad sensor somewhere to me. All seems fine other than the intermittent alarm. Would you run that engine...

Oh no! Cruisin' down the lake and starboard check engine alarm comes on. All pressures and temps are okay. Engine seems to run fine. What are candidate problems here? Anything I can check before opening the wallet?

Aaaaargh! Port engine wouldn't start. Bad battery according to the mechanic. My question, what kind of batteries should I be using in the 280DA? Cranking or deep-cycle? What specs? Just replace the originals that are on the boat now? Please help.

New 280DA owner - how do I use genny, AC, DC, etc.?

All the CO detectors at the local marine supply store are wired (no batteries). Can I "steal" power from a light fixture for them?

New 280DA owner - how do I use genny, AC, DC, etc.?

Thanks for the info. Luckily, the dock that I refered to is at my house with no other boats in sight! It was just too stinkin' hot to be stocking the cabin without a/c (just had the boat 3 days now, so we're trying to get things squared away). I'm within a few days of having shore power...

New 280DA owner - how do I use genny, AC, DC, etc.?

This thread has been a huge help, but now I have an actual problem with equipment as opposed to just being ignorant of the equipment (or maybe it will just turn out to be newbie me). The scenario is: sitting at the dock for about 5 hours running the genny (don't have shorepower completed yet...

Thanks to KHARRIMAN. My battery switches turned out to behave the same way.

Okay, you're bad! When I went to sea trial, I asked "there wasn't that much water in the bottom of the boat, how is it getting in there?". He was much kinder than you (I guess since I was about to buy the boat). But.... I'm using your line the first chance I get.

I'm getting paranoid now. I'm gonna' replicate your setup.

Good info, thank you. Do you trust the Sea Ray provided CO detector in the cabin, or do you buy another as a redundant protection mechanism? I'd hate to wake up one morning dead.

Hey Henry, common sense prevails! Tell the kidos no popcorn 'til we stop.

Is it okay to run the genny while underway?

New 280DA owner - how do I use genny, AC, DC, etc.?

Thank you! So am I understanding you correctly: with the AC Converter turned on, I am still using 12vdc for the cabin lights (of course, they're dc bulbs), but the genny is now charging the batteries, yes? Also, the battery "selector" knobs in the cockpit (where the ignition keys are) - I had...

New 280DA owner - how do I use genny, AC, DC, etc.?

The day finally arrived - the boat is now on the water, but one thing is confusing me. When using the genny, I still have to turn on the switch for lights in the 12vdc section on the switch panel to get cabin lights. Am I using dc or ac for the lights? Am I depleting the charge on my...

This is an individual selling the boat. We went and spent the day with him and his family on the boat and got to know him/them. He has maintained the boat religiously each year (his dealer doing the work - winterization, oil change, impellers, etc.). He volunteered the information on this...

Please help. I have located a mint condition 2005 280DA 5.0L BIIIs, Kohler 5kw. Everything is beautiful about this boat... almost. The seller has had to replace the impeller on one engine (at 90 hours), and now the other needs the same. It has 103 hours. The overheat alarm went off during sea...

I don't have my 280 DA, yet. Sea trial tomorrow. Last week we did a sea trial on a 2004 280DA 5.0L BIIIs. It did the EXACT same thing! It scarred me away from the boat (along with some other system failures). I don't have a clue, but you're not alone in this behavior.
