    Great Lakes Fuel Prices

$4.49 is the cheapest available in the 1000 Islands/Alexandria Bay for gasoline that I've seen. All stations are serving 91 octane, no ethanol. Diesel is hovering around $4.00 or a bit more, but there is much less demand for it up here.

    Calling all 360 DA owners

Just checking back in after a while away - on the boat now. First, thanks to my3sons for all your help on this thread and in the forum. I, too hope you will stick around to help us in the future! Our boat turns 10 this year (we've owned it for 4 years; traded up from an '02 340 w/ outdrives)-...

    bow thruster vs twin engines

We had no problem docking a 280 ss with twins in any situation. Engine room access sucked, though. My boating history ironically has zero boats with a bow thruster. With well placed fenders, a little experience/practice, and a crew member who can tie a line, I have not damaged any boat beyond...

    Dead Engine?

I'm certainly no tech, but I'd at least go through the motions if there's a possibility of a hydrolocked motor-- pull the plugs, try to crank the motor to blow the water out and fog the cylinders. At least you'd know if the problem was more serious if the motor still didn't crank. If you...

    Tubing behind an express cruiser

I can't say I've ever seen someone being towed for recreational purposes behind anything over 30 feet. I don't think there are tow hookups built (ski eyes or harness connections at the corners down low, etc.) into these larger boats in the first place, and hooking to the cleats is probably...

    Safe to go WOT?

Hi blaster, I'm not sure what my gph/speed are at WOT; if conditions are good next week, I'll give it a shot and report back with the results... I'll take a wild guess now: maybe 30 gph per engine and top speed in the high 30's (but it'll make a glorious noise like a speedboat)!

    Safe to go WOT?

I tend to run the boat at WOT once or twice a season... Always at least once at the beginning of the year to be sure the engine makes the spec'd rpm and runs smoothly. I watch the water temp, tach, and speedometer gauges pretty closely when I do. Otherwise, I may goose it if I'm trying to outrun...

    370 Sundancer Fuel Consumption

We used to have a '98 model with the mpi 454's. My recollection was 3000 rpm = 11.5 gph per engine on the floscans. With new 4-bladed props, that yielded roughly 20 mph. I don't know what the difference was with the carb motors on the older models.

St. Lawrence river - last gas station in NY/St. Regis reservation?

Just passed by the reservation today, so here's an update if anyone reads the thread in a later search: The gas station just downriver of the snell lock is still open, and we filled up. Deep water on the approach, and the had regular gas @ 3.83 and premium @ 4.02 per gallon as of this posting--...

St. Lawrence river - last gas station in NY/St. Regis reservation?

Hi all, We'll be heading to Montreal in a few days by boat. Typically, we've stopped at the gas station right along the seaway immediately after the Eisenhower + Snell locks, just beyond the bridge. (it's on the Indian reservation) Does anyone know if that station is currently open? I'd...

    Calling all 360 DA owners

We do as the above poster has mentioned and don't experience any problems. Just to be safe, the items in that drawer are stored in a plastic tote in our boat.

    Alexandria Bay New york

Other places to stay that come to mind in A-Bay: Hutchinson's occasionally takes transient boaters. Worth a phone call if you want to stay aboard. Alex Bay town dock - you may be able to stay overnight; convenient, but not quiet. The Boardwalk - certainly nothing fancy but they have a pool and...

    2001 340 da

Some good advice above, and my experience with the stern drive versions matches his-- it was acceptably quick to plane and the running attitude seemed low enough for good visibility at cruise. I also noticed a nice difference in overall performance and time to plane once the first 1/4 tank of...

    2001 340 da

I agree completely with the above post-- you're not going to see any difference with the horizon vs std. motor for cruising speed, only top speed (and that's mostly because of the higher redline). GM powertrain used to publish the hp/torque curves for the blocks they supplied to the marine...

    Westerbeke genny durability ?

Although I am a novice when it comes to generators, in our family's limited experience (2 gas Kohlers, 2 gas Westerbekes), we very much preferred the Westerbekes. Quieter (1800 rpm vs 3600), no problems... I think one of them was running a little rough once, but just "exercising" it for a nice...

    Comment on OEM oil filter

Thanks for the info. I thought almost every filter has an anti-drainback valve in it (including ones for automotive applications), though. Of course, the quality of different ADBV materials varies. I can think of several GM automotive applications where the filter was mounted sideways, but...

    Comment on OEM oil filter

Over the years, I have seen marinas who were merc dealers or sold merc parts install oil filters from AC delco, Wix, Mercruiser, and even those crappy orange Frams. Never, ever heard of an engine problem attributed to using them when the application was spec'd correctly. Since these motors are...

    Oil oil oil oil oil?????

Have had no problems whatsoever with a quality "dino" Straight 30W, 40W, or the standard-grade Merc 25W-40. The "extended drains" argument doesn't exactly hold water as most folks who boat where winter exists just change their oil annually anyway at lay-up.

used boat on sea trail failed

Agreed with the others here. Make sure every switch, button, and lightbulb works, in addition to the Axius issues, before signing on the dotted line-- we have a friend who had so many repeated failures of the Axius system that he got rid of his boat...

    underpowered and frustrated

Just a thought from out in left field: what is your idle rpm, in gear when warm? Would it be possible for your dealer to try bumping it up 100-200 rpm and see if the boat shifts harshly and/or reacts better when docking?
