    Considering mid 90's 370 or late 90's 330.....

Both of those are great boats. Sea Ray at their best. If you are looking at gas boats that age I would suggest shopping freshwater only.

    TCM Engines in Austin TX

The block isn't really the issue. The cam, pistons, valve springs, and heads are where the "performance tune" is. We have done literally hundreds of engine replacements and rebuilds. the ONLY supplier who consistently gives us engines that perform and don't have problems is Mercury Re-man...

    TCM Engines in Austin TX

Hard to tell when you are getting a marine engine and when you are getting an automotive engine if it is not coming from Mercruiser. We only use genuine Mercruiser re-man long blocks for this and other reasons. We have never had a failure and they always perform. Just because "it's a 350"...

Need help with info on a purchase of a 99 460 sundancer

Check for moisture in the core around the engine room hullside vents. On some of these Sea Ray did not seal the plastic vents and there was exposed balsa core around the holes that absorbed water. We have repaired these. It is not a small project. I am a fan of that boat with those engines but...

    2012 50 Sundancer

Looks like it is melting..... and like someone took a slice out of the side of the hull where that large window is. The clean lines of the 90's 50 Sundancer are gone forever. :-/ The new 45 looks a little better. I am surprised they are still messing with the droopy design. I thought they...

    Looking at a 90' 350 DA

That is one of my favorite Sea Ray's. Sea Ray really had it dialed in during the late 80's and early 90's. That same boat was also labeled a 370 As the other poster said. Great Lines. Very pretty boat and timeless.

    Smoking, lazy, 6V92 Dancer 500

I would have a Detroit tech pull the valve covers and do a cylinder kill test to see if you have a bad injector. It is pretty easy to do. He can also check the clearances on the turbo (s) If the smoke is blue however you may have to put "kits" in it. (that is the nice way to say an in frame...

Who makes the best marine speakers?

JL is light years ahead of everyone else. The quality and sound is amazing. I put JL amps and speakers in my boats and cars and have always been very pleased. Super high quality product.

Poor parts support from Sea Ray

It is a three foot long molded fiberglass piece that bolts on. If you look at the the white boat at the top right of this page you can see the slightly curved piece that goes across the top of the large side vent. My guess is that they made them "in house". Sometime a boat company will tell you...

Poor parts support from Sea Ray

Called boat vent guy and sent him pics last week....... I guess he doesn't have a mold for this one. Also already tried Flounder Pounder and Great lakes skipper, plus scoured e-bay for hours.... I just got news that they sent a diver down and he found what is left of the old one. At least we...

Poor parts support from Sea Ray

As a yard owner we have many years of frustrating experience trying to get parts from boat builders. Most boats are built in such small quantities that the builders don't keep much of an inventory of small parts. I understand the economics of this. However...... It is the summer of 2010 and in...

    QSM-11 VS 3196TA's

I agree with Frank on the 3406. That is the way to go. I had a 580 with 3408's and that boat was a rocket and the engines were trouble free. I had 500 with 3176's and hated those engines the whole time. They never were right. 34 series is the way to go

Wind gave me fits docking my 39 EC today.

I like to "swish' it in and not touch anything but.... When the wind is blowing gently resting your stern quarter on the piling/pole and levering it is absolutely the way to go. I used to use the "position the bow slightly upwind so the wind blows it down into position" method but there is a...

    New Vintage Flybridge Owner

Re: Per your request I miss boats like this one. Sea Ray, Bayliner, Carver, and Silverton all used to make bridge boats in the 20's. To me it was a great way to put a lot of room in a small boat without blowing it up into an ugly bubble like they do now. I used to have a 27' Silverton with...

    Complete Cockpit Stereo Upgrade

One thing I learned to do it to put a separate remote knob for the sub amp. If you have a large sub system and listen to a wide variety of music the bass can go from nothing to killing everybody from one song to the next. On most head units you have to hit multiple buttons/menus to get to the...

I had two JL12W7's http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pages.php?page_id=3 in a box made into the corner cockpit seat on the 500. Powered them with a JL1000/1 http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=440 Mids and highs were three pair of 6.5" JL separates on two JL HD 400...

    Shall I dare?

I was going to say the same thing. The shaft alignment should be checked after the boat is launched and has been floating a few days. If they start changing alignment while it is on blocks, you are more likely to create problems than fix any.

    Pulling shafts on v-drives

The description above will not work on the Hurth since the coupler is "backwards" and the shaft goes through the transmission. They way to pull these is with a large slide hammer screwed on to the propeller end of the shaft. Remove the prop, take the nut off the transmssion end of the...
