I replaced the tambour in my 340EC with teak veneer material from here- http://www.tapeease.com/veneer1.htm
Yes, I know it says it's not recommended for tambour doors, but it was the only teak tambour available and the original was faux teak photographic finished. It's working great.
They...
Good suggestions above with regards to areas to watch for moisture. I would add to check ANY and ALL fasteners on the foredeck that required drilling through the fiberglass to mount. I was amazed on my 340 how much water was able to get past screws for snaps that were installed to attach...
In the late '70's Sea Ray had two lines of 30' boats; the above was a Sportfisher based on the 300 Weekender. Small bridge, and notice it's open on the aft end. Most seem to have a drop curtain here for protection from the weather.
The other 30 footer of the era was the 300 Express Cruiser...
I used these folks in Spokane WA a few years ago and was very impressed with their work. Very thorough rebuild, somewhere on their site they give an overview of how extensive their builds are. They even have a 1 year warranty...
Correct. I bought a left over new 1986 300WE in 1987. All Weekenders of this newer style hull had inboards (starting in '85 I think). Most had 350 cu.in./ 260 hp small blocks, but some later boats (this hull was used through '89) had 454 cu.in./340 hp big block motors. A friend bought an '89...
A few thoughts-
It's possible that Flounder Pounder Marine might have NOS pieces. Here's their link-
http://www.fpmarine.com/
I've used M&I Systems in Seattle to cut new ones for my 340. They specialize in boat panels and do a very nice job. Can't tell you for sure what they'd cost...
Shawn,
I would verify that the stbd side engine is indeed getting warm. You could use one of those point-and-shoot thermometers (or whatever they call them), checking both sides while your bride runs the boat.
I bought a 300WE new in '87. The stbd side always gave different readings...
It may not have a thermostat at all. This was the case with our boat. I'm guessing people remove them after a problem, or to get them to run cooler at WOT (more flow).
Thermostats seem to stick shut, creating an overheating situation, more often than open. At least it's the stuck shut ones...
Hey Shawn,
You might try swapping the control from one to the other burner and / or the element. If the one that didn't work now does, and the one that did doesnt', you've found your problem.
Do you have the oven also? If the toggle switch is on the oven side, only two burners will work...
SonnyDaze,
Your distributors are the same, in fact, they rotate in the same direction.
The starboard side motor is the right hand, or counter rotating one. This is done by eliminating the timing chain and gears, replacing them with two gears that mesh together. This way the cam and...
Sbw1's tips are right on the money. Also, as mentioned, a bit of mineral or vegetable oil in the bowl every so often is a good thing to help keep the rubber seal lubed and sealing well.
On that subject, I recently changed the rubber seal after the old one got torn similar to sbw1's. The new...
Water spots can be removed one of two ways- either chemically or with an abrasive.
Muratic acid mixed maybe 50/50 with water will often melt the mineral deposits off glass. You can find it in the nursury department at Home Depot. Be careful, and do a small test area first. Start with a...
I replaced both hatches on my '86 340EC. I had intended to buy replacement parts as eddiezuskin did, but found that they were no longer available for my OEM Bomar hatches. I don't know what year they changed the handle design, but my friend's '89 340DA has a newer design.
I bought new Bomar...
tobnpr,
It's been awhile since I've messed with this part of my 340 project, but as I recall, when I changed out the solenoid, my boat is wired with a single pole, single throw (SPST) toggle switch on the dash that runs down to the continuous duty solenoid. It's light guage, probably only...
Frank,
I'm sure you already did, but Flounder Pounder may have one. Their site says to call for a specific model-
http://www.fpmarine.com
When you're hunting, the first year for the wide body 370EC is 1997. Earlier than that and it will be for the 1990-1995 350/370EC and DA.
Though your main concern seems to be worry about line rode chafing, as RollerCoastr suggests, all chain rode can help a stern heavy boat plane.
A good friend has an '89 340DA, with v-drives and big blocks nearly against the transom. He switched to 200' of 3'8" chain rode to help the boat...
Re: Lawsuit Kohler gennys from 1950-1989
I tried the link posted, but got an error. This seems to be the correct link pertaining to exhaust manifold replacements-
