I should also say when the engine was running on plane, there was no smoke. Only had smoke when I was trying to throttle up when it couldn't reach RPM. Running along at 750 or so there wasn't any smoke.

What model AC did you replace the 12000 btu unit with. You said 16000, do you have a model number? Did you have to change the thermostat too? My unit is about ready to rust thru the pan....

I think the easiest way to remove the exhaust pipe is to take it apart at the turbo. When my port engine was rebuilt this year we removed the turbo at it was quite easy to take apart the exhaust. You will have a lot of leverage to twist the pipe from the rubber sleeve.
