Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Update- I talked to the service guys yesterday. They said that the technician used a borescope to inspect the tube and could see that it was collapsed. Said you could inspect it by raising the outdrive? Said that due to the accessibility of the engine compartment you really had to remove the...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Thanks SeaJay62 and Lazy Daze. Not sure if you all are familiar with the the 2012 and newer 230 SLN/SLX, but I can see how the fitting would be terribly difficult to access from the engine compartment on this boat. The way the engine cover is made doesn't help at all, and the way the engine...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

SeaJay62, I don't think that there is any way to access the fitting on the inside of the hull on my boat without taking the engine out. The way the hull is made it's very difficult to access anything that low down. I'm guessing you were able to easily get to it in your? I looked at the quote...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Thanks scoflaw, that's what I thought too. This happens to be the same dealer I bought the boat from new 5 years ago. This boat has about 80 hrs on it. We moved to a salt location from fresh/brackish last October. The boat has always been in a lift or dry storage. Maybe 6 hrs put on it...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Update- Dealer is saying they found a collapsed transom tube. They are also saying that they will have to pull the engine to replace it. Also quoted exhaust manifold replacement if they are found bad on inspection while the engine is out. Total cost estimate a little over $6000 for all that...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Quick update.... I went and ran the boat on the hose again this evening. Let it flush plenty long and I actually started the flush with the outdrive raised, then lowered it when I got the boat down in the water. Then I cranked the boat while on the flush and let it run. Pressure was great...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

man, I went and looked at the engine compartment again. It was all I could do the other day to get a wrench on the water pressure sensor and pull it out/reinstall. I just don't think I'm going to be able to get in there and pull that hose apart. Looks like I'll be arranging a tow to the...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Nothing new to report on this. Just didn't have time yesterday to get to it. I'll probably end up having to make a weekend project out of it. In the meantime, if anyone has a specific recommendation on which hose to take loose I'd appreciate it. If I can take a pic of the engine this evening...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

I’m thinking it would be easier to pull off a hose at the thermostat to test flow since that is more accessible and rig up something. Thoughts?

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Thanks again. The way this boat (and me, LOL) are made it would be incredibly difficult to access the transom inlet. But I think what you are saying makes sense. I will have to see if I can get to it. The engine is very deep in the hull. It was about all I could do to reach the pressure...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Well I stopped and picked up another set of muffs on the way home. Got the wife in the kayak and put them on the boat while it was in the lift. Turned the hose on and cranked the boat and I'm getting pretty much the same results as I am with the outdrive submerged in the water. Water pressure...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Thanks again all for the comments and suggestions. Espos4, not sure on the impeller part. I had the work done by the dealer and I didn't hear back anything related to the impeller other than it was replaced. I'm going to try to figure out how to do the raw water pump test that LazyDaze...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

So how do I do this test? Is it as simple as taking the hose loose and aiming it at a bucket? LOL Probably makes sense to try this before changing the sensor.

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Well I managed to find the pressure switch and take it out. Really nothing visibly wrong with it. Didn't see to have any debris in the port and the tap on the cooler was clear. I put it back in and ran the boat again with pretty much the same results. Very low indicated pressure at idle and...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Thanks again for all the great information guys! The way the engine cover is made on our boat there is a lift out portion right above where that pressure sensor and cooler should be. I'll try to take a look at it this evening when I get home. Sure would be nice if that ends of being the issue.

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Thanks again for the info. paulswagelock, approx how many hours were on the boat that had the "bravoitis"? scoflaw, I haven't let it run long enough to overheat. It just started doing this as I was about to depart yesterday. I quickly put the boat back in the lift and hooked it up on a flush...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Thanks for the replies guys. This boat is a 2012 model that has pretty low hours. I read a little about the "bravoitis", but I'd have a hard time believing it could happen that quickly. Could be though. I always have the outdrive submerged when running the engine, even if the flush is being...

Bravo 3 Cooling water pressure question

Hey guys, I have a question about the cooling water system on my boat with a Bravo 3 outdrive. My boat has the 350 Mag MPI engine. Last fall I moved to a saltwater location, and I had the local Sea Ray dealer install a flushing kit on it to allow flushing the boat in my lift. While it was in...

2002 Sea Ray 230 Bowrider Cooler Plug

My boat doesn't have a threaded hole, but I just bought a rubber stopper from Lowe's and whittled it down enough with a pocket knife to fit the hole. My reasoning was the same as yours......to hold the water in to keep drinks cool. Not an elegant solution, but probably only cost me $0.75!
