Interesting. On mine I did have to. I don't know if the reason is my smartcraft wasn't factory installed, but installed a year after purchase when I bought the navigation system. But recalibration on the smartcraft didn't recalibrate the engine data from the Garmin nor the analog gauge.
I have a 2011 250SLX with the 8.2L Mag HO pushing the Bravo 3X.
Just recently noticed the analog trim gauge on my dash doesn't reflect "all the way up" even when the drive is full up. On the smartcraft display I can calibrate the trim from there, but that doesn't calibrate the analog gauge and...
With the Garmin 740s it will accept a NMEA connection from the engine to display all the engine data. RPM, trim, temp, fuel, fuel consumption, water pressure, oil pressure, etc.
Originally I thought the Mercury Smartcraft engine data output comes out of the engine in NMEA 2000 format. I found...
Kaz, my research turned up similar results. My boat "stock" has an airmar "smart" transducer 235 khz that sends a digital signal up to the stock depth gauge.
Airmar said for the garmin I will need an analog transducer that will send the full analog data stream to make the sounder image work...
kaz, you were right. I did need to get the merc monitor. Where did you mount the merc monitor gauge?
I didn't want to take out the stock gauges, so I needed a different place to mount a 3rd 3" gauge. Your dash is probably different than mine, but curious how you did it.
Yeah, I think you guys are right. I went to my local West Marine today. The store manager is very knowledgeable. He said it won't work with the stock transducer.
After thinking it over, I think I'm going to either replace my stock transducer with one for the Garmin, or put a second thru-hull...
Picked up a Garmin 740s
Originally planned on using a transducer that mounts inside the bilge but my dealer informed me that my boat has a "double hull" and that it wouldn't work.
Dealer is closed for the holidays but wanted to do some shopping today. On "double hull" boats is there ANY place...
Took delivery of a 2011 250 SLX last April. (8.2L Mag HO with Bravo3X drives)
After 13 trips to the dealer with warranty issue after warranty issue over the summer (including a new engine) I think I finally have a working boat that I intend to keep a while.
So time for toys.
Picked up a...
Took delivery of my new 2011 250 SLX.
Cannot FOR the life of me figure out what the second table stand/post is for?
The boat came with 2 table bases, one forward, one aft. There is a straight stand/post which works well.
The second base/post is curved at a 45 degree angle. I can't...
Big Island Lifer,
Not looking to have the fastest boat on the water. I looked at a 27 Donzi and I know that would give me way more speed.
After looking at every conceivable boat and manufacturer, I know the sea-ray 250 has the creature comforts I want.
I've already ordered the Sea-Ray, but...
do you think the "stuck on water" feel is due to the heavier boat or the bravo 3 drive compared to the bravo 1?
Thats one of the reasons I worry I won't like the B3. I like the feel of the boat when it gets nice and light going across a light chop when I trim up the Alpha 1 in my 210 BR...
Woody, looking at your boat history, I think you could probably answer this question very well.
I currently have a 210 BR 240HP with Alpha 1 and I really like the feel at WOT. Once I get up on plane and trim it up perfectly, it feels very light and has a nice motion to it on light chop...
Woody, thats good information, thank-you! I had forgotten Sea-Ray offered both drive options in 2006.
It is still a little tempting. With the B1 I pick up a few MPH and then I can have some prop work done and pick up a few more.
I do a lot of runs up and down Lake Michigan coast and I...
Part of the problem is there just isn't much information out there for comparison purposes.
I don't want to chase a ghost, so if a Bravo 1x (along with some prop work) wouldn't give me 4 or 5 mph more than the B3, its a moot point. Doesn't make sense. I don't think just the B1 alone would...
Have a new 2011 250 SLX on order.
Have the boat ordered with the 8.2L Mag HO (430HP)
looking for the most top-end I can get from the boat, despite Sea-ray not showing the Bravo 1 as an option, they are willing to put one on for me.
My understanding is with the Bravo 1x I will sacrifice...
I was planning to trade it in. They were going to give me 15,000 for trade in. (2000 210 BR with the 240hp EFI engine) Bimini, hugely upgraded stereo (though I'll probably pull out the extra sony amplifier and Polk Audio speakers) and put back the stock speakers if I trade it.
Boat has been...
Pending garage-fit-test I'm purchasing a 2011 250 SLX.
Looking for feedback if the price I've negotiated with my dealer is a competitive price.
2011 250 SLX:
8.2L Mag HO (430hp) Catalyst
Captains Call exhaust (thru hull selectable)
2-tone gel coat
bimini canvas package (bimini top...
took it in to the dealer just to have them check it so I'd sleep better at night. :)
They said the prop was well within spec. Said it was 3 thousanths off but factory margin is 7 thousandths.
They pressure tested all my seals while they were at it and everything checked out fine.
They...
Was on a new lake last Saturday. Going through a channel at idle/no wake speed. Had it trimmed up but not quite far enough. Found a shallow spot. Heard the prop hit a rock and then drag across a few others
Got to a gas-dock and raised the drive and checked the SS prop. One very small ding...
