    Survey before or after offer?

As a potential first time boat purchaser, wondering if you make an offer on a used boat, then have it surveyed and adjust the price accordingly if needed. OR do you have a boat surveyed and then make an offer. Seems like option 1 is the correct answer but I know all you experienced people will...

    How to measure "hours"

Okay, maybe a dumb question. I know what high mileage means on a car but how many hours are high on a boat? What is the average life of a motor in hours?

Thanks for the input. The dealer I met with told me that you couldn't trailer anything larger than 26' because of the width. I was hoping to keep it in a slip, but be able to take it to other lakes if we wanted to. Since you have a 30', it sounds like that might not be true.

    Wet slip v. dry dock

"Check out Boomsite on the St Croix Stillwater area out they have a few options for a 29' I'm paying $2,800." I'll check this out.

    Is bigger better?

Wow, this site is fantastic and I thank each of you for the responses. I am a total newbie- never driven or docked one - my husband has grown up on the lake and has a lot of experience with speed boats, pontoons and fishing boats but this is our first actual boat purchase. As I said before, we...

    Is bigger better?

I am looking to buy my first boat ever. People have been saying that its best to buy the biggest boat you can afford. We were originally looking at 24-26' 2005 or newer. My question is, is it better to buy a larger boat that is a little older, or is it best to stick with something relatively...

    New to Boating

Thanks for the replies and the good questions. We will be keeping the boat at a marina - either wet slip or dry dock. We plan to keep it on the St. Croix river for the first year, maybe moving to Lake Minnetonka the next. Mostly it will be used just to boat, swim, weekend overnights. We have...

    Wet slip v. dry dock

Thank you all for your replies. We are planning on buying a 26 footer so I think we could do either wet or dry slips. I have looked at marinas along the St. Croix (Bayport, Stillwater, Hudson) and they seem to run around $4500 for that size boat for a wet slip and around $1500 for dry dock. I...

    Wet slip v. dry dock

I hope to be a new boat owner shortly and need to make a decision about where to dock our boat. The marinas around here (St. Croix River, Lake Minnetonka) seem to charge around $4500 for a wet slip and only $1600 for dry dock with unlimited launching. Are there advantages of one over the other...

My husband and I are new to the boating world. We are looking to purchase our first boat in the next month and are looking at a 24-26 foot Sea Ray cruiser. Looking forward to reading posts for any information helpful to a novice.
