Yeah, when you add up all the expenses related to owning a boat, it can seem expensive. The monthly expense of even a small boat like ours can approach what a mortgage payment is on an average home. But I don't look at it that way. It gives me access to a lifestyle that otherwise would not be...
Sea trials complete! Overall we like the boat. Alot more space& ammenities than our current boat. More of a true "cruiser" than our 215EC. Handles great with the Bravo 3, but seems sluggish with 5.0l MPI Merc. Much slower to plane than the 215, but I guess thats part of the tradeoff when going...
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts& prayers for you and your family. May God give you and your family peace that surpasses all understanding during this time of sorrow.
We have sea trials scheduled today for the 240DA that we have been considering. We were hoping for good weather, but the forecast is calling for rain:smt013. I posted a few weeks ago about the boat and agree that maybe we should consider a larger boat, but right now I just don't have enough...
I store my Magma grill under the starboard side of my v-berth& the propane bottles in the ventilated storage compartment under the port side front seat. I use the Magma cover/bag to keep the grill& mount together. It fits perfectly under the v-berth.
Is it just me, or does SR now value form or styling of their boats, more than the function of their boats? I recently toured a new 240& 260DA and was astonished at how things have changed since the early to mid 2000's. The current models of these boats are just so cramped(cockpit& cabin)...
I have a propane kettle-style Magma grill. I use a fishing rod holder mount, it is very secure. The model of grill I have can also be used as a stove and can also bake. Between the grill and the microwave oven on my boat, you would be very surprised at the meals I can prepare onboard! Pizza...
I added an inverter under the galley in my 215EC years ago. I primarily use it to operate a microwave oven that I mounted to the countertop. We have also found it useful for running small appliances and tools. It is one of the most useful mods that I have made to our boat, I can't imagine not...
I am also considering purchasing a current generation 240DA(an '08). While I like the overall styling of the current model, the earlier models had a much more practical cockpit layout. I really liked the folding aft bench seat that the 240& 260's used to have. I wish SR would keep in mind that...
I was hoping to get some feedback from 240DA owners who are using using the boat as a family cruiser/overnighter for four people. We are considering trading our 215EC for a nicely equipped '08 240DA. Keep in mind that my wife and I have spent many nights aboard our current boat and find it...
Another vote for the Cruise-Air hatch air conditioner. I have used one of these on my 215EC for years. I plug into shorepower when available and power it with a Coleman 1850 watt generator when swinging on the hook. Works well, I am not sure I would try this in bad weather though. I considered...
Thanks for all the helpful replies to my post. I was(am) not trying to start a brand war, but just trying to get some opinions from knowledgable boaters. It is very easy to get emotional about a boat purchase and I like to get an unbiased, third party opinion. Most of the opinions posted echo my...
My wife& I have a '98 215EC that we bought new. We have had a great time with the boat and still love it. The 215 has worked well for the two of us for cruising, overnighting, and for some occasional fishing. But now that we have two small children, the 215 is too small for overnighting and is...
I am considering replacing my batteries with 2 group 27 Duralast dual purpose marine batteries from Autozone. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience(good or bad) with these batteries. I have used the Duralast batteries in my cars& trucks for sometime and have been happy with them. The...
I added an inverter to our boat primarily to run a microwave. It is one of the most used items that I have ever added to our boat. From running the microwave and blender in the galley to powering small power tools for odd jobs, there is hardly a time that we don't use it for something when we...
We primarily do our boating on Lake Norman, although we have had it on Lake Wylie a few times. We kept it dry stored at Westport Marina on Lake Norman for most of the time we have had it. We also do some ICW cruising with our boat. We have done most of the SC coast, from Hilton Head Island to...
I would like to say hello to all CSR members. My wife and I have been avid boaters/Sea Ray enthusiasts since we bought our 215EC in '98. I would also like to send a shout out to Sandlapper for directing me to CSR and for all the help he has been to us over the years:smt038. We look forward to...
