I brought the engine up to operating temperature on the trailer with the muffs. I first sucked it through the tube by clamping a 3/8s hose on it, then after I got as much as possible I put the smaller tube in to check and didn't get anymore. Both sucked air bubbles after I got the 4.3 litres out.
My 7.4 MPI is supposed to hold 6.6 litres, but I only got 4.3 out of the dipstick tube with an extractor when I did the oil change. I know there was 6.6 litres in there because I just rebuilt it and put that much in there. I am reading on the forums that this is a common issue.
Any ideas why I...
I found another boat with a Bravo 3 leg and it makes the same noise. A local mechanic says the noise is normal. I'm going to check some other legs for the noise.
A mechanic at the Searay dealer says any issue will show in the oil, so I will monitor it.
With the boat on the trailer and the engine off, I can hear a clicking noise from the lower unit when I turn the prop by hand in either direction. The drive is in neutral. It sounds like noise from the gears making contact.
Is this normal?
New to me 1999 270 Searay with a 7.4 mpi. I found tiny metal shavings in the oil and larger ones in the filter, but there is no knocking at idle or start up. Possibly a faint knock at 2000 rpm. Oil pressure at 2000 rpm on mechanical guage is 25 psi. Engine was run a couple hours low on oil...
