Maybe i am wrong here but when it was explained to me, when hooking up to shore power i should have the battery switch in the off position, and use the breakers in the electric panel. Maybe there is no effect on systems, i do not know that answer.
Would there be any schematics of how boats wiring is layed out. Have seen under the dash that the wiring has numbers on the ends. Sure would be a big help knowing the layout and routing.
Just had this problem on my 97 250da. With the exception it was only every other gauge. Pulled the gauge panel then the little bulb holder on each gauge and bent the little tangs on the holder and reinstaled. walla fixed. They weren't makingt good contact and by bending them just a smidge it...
Update: Horn is dead and the vhf radio is dead. Horn shouldn't draw as you have to use the switch unless switch is bad. Vhf radio is fried so it is now out of the boat. Alt. had i believe was a orange wire that looks like it runs around to the starter with a very crappy connection at the alt...
Only other wires that go directly to the batterys is 1 to each the house set and the starting from the onboard charger. Don't think anything else is direct hookup. As far as the altinater it seems to work by the gauge but still ending up short on charge.

Are the truck you all speak of like the rollers on a screen door? On my 250 da it looks as though the door sits on like a plastic block that rides in the floor track. I have alot of free play up and down, sometimes door works ok and other times it seems to bind up. What are some sugested things...
