Hi all,
It's been a while since I have been on here as we have a New Zealand built boat at present.
I have had a look through the 400 sedan bridge thread and picked up on heaps of maintenance related info.
We are currently looking at yr2000-2002 400 Sedan bridges in America. They seem to be...
We all know metal particles being circulated in the oil are not good for engines.
Engine sump plugs rarely have a magnetic pick up (transmissions do) and rely solely on the engine oil filter to capture any metallic particles that end up in the oil.
I'm not taking any credit for this or...
Hi All,
Its been a while since I posted... Been busy working on and enjoying the new boat.
This is so simple and cheap I thought I would share.
It is basically a 1 1/4" ' T ' fitting reduced down to take a shut-off valve and a domestic 'click on' hose fitting.
If you go down to your plumbing...
Some of you will know I have just got a new to me boat.
On the weekend I changed the anchor chain as the old one was heavily rusted. After that job was done we set off to anchor in our favorite bay and have a swim. On returning to the boat I noticed bubbles coming off both stern legs!
I...
Well after spending 2 lots of 10 days on Annie we decided it's just not big enough for our family of four.
We have signed a contract pending sea trials and surveys which start on Saturday. The launch is a New Zealand made 1997 Genesis 320 euro, 32ft, twin Volvo 150 hp duo prop diesels @600 hrs...
We just got back from a week in the Marlborough sounds and thought I'd share a few photos for you guys and gals up north enduring winter.
We had some great weather and the fishing was excellent.
Feel free to add to this post all you Kiwis out there doing it.
Hi all,
Background: My parents Bay***** 1994 5.7merc, closed cooling (Bravo 2) permanently moored in Salt water.
Over the winter it has started slowly over heating once on the plane till it reaches 200F @3900 rpm. When you back off the throttle it will sit at 160F.
I have changed the impeller...
Hi all,
My boat has a 1, 2 or both battery selector. Every time I start the engine the voltage to the stereo and VHF drops so much they lose their settings. This was starting to get on my nerves last trip out as I have to re select the VHF so I don't transmit on the emergency (default) channel...
Was watching round two from Plymouth, England on the box today and the racing of these big Cats was fantastic. Speeds of 47 ks/hr downwind! Spittle and Coutts (team Oracle racing) for America and Barker for Team New Zealand seem to be the big players. Thrilling if you can get to watch some.
The...
Thought I would share a great modification to any 4.3 with an electric fuel pump.
After my boat sits for any time it used to take forever to start. This was because the fuel drained or evaporated from the carb. The 4.3 doesn't have a mechanical fuel pump and relies on an alternator output or...
Hi Guys and Gals,
I purchased a LMF200 and fuel flow sender off BOE Marine, The link for installing a network is not working on the Lowrance website. I asked Jim but he hasn't answered?
My question is: As I only want to use the network for fuel flow info is it ok to wire the network power to...
I'm planning a road/boating holiday this summer and was thinking it would be good if I could keep the batteries topped up while on the road.
I have a good power supply to the front of the trailer for the braking system.
Does anyone do this or know of a way to do this?
Just received a set of Barr manifolds, risers etc. Really happy with the casting quality.... but the paint! scratches off with my finger nail and the gasket set is rubbish. Off to work to bead blast the paint off and put some 2 pak on them.
I see why Frank and others haven't rated them highly...
The disc brakes on my boat trailer are obsolete and have seen better days. Instead of changing hubs/stubs/calipers etc $2500 nzd I was thinking of machining off the old rotors completely (cast Iron) and having new rotors cut with a water jet, and bolt them on to the appropriately machined hub...
During a recent check under my dizzy cap I noticed quite a lot of moisture and corrosion. The engine was hard to start so I replaced the cap and rotor.
Then I had a brainwave.... I was taking my morning dose of pills and when the silica gel moisture absorbent cylinder rolled into my hand, I...
I would like to fit a fuel flow meter to my boat and have searched the net for any clues on the "good or bad". There isn't much info out there that is convincing. Is there anyone out there that has fitted a gauge and is happy or disappointed or ones to steer clear of? BOE has a few listed and...
Wondering if anyone knows any tried and tested ways to cure well adjusted v belts from squeaking? They aren't slipping, just squeaking at idle which is driving me crazy!:smt101
Thanks in advance. Mike
I recently had the drive off and replaced the uni crosses and gimbal bearing due to a rumbling noise at full lock.
I can confirm it was the universals that caused the rumble but now there seems to be a whining noise coming from the drive shaft housing at all steering angles and when in gear...
I,m in the middle of an oil change where I just sucked out about 2.7 liters of oil and that's all I can get.... The weird thing is that it was reading above full on the Dipstick.
My boat has had a repower with a vortec v6 and I wonder if the previous owner transferred or mixed up the dipsticks...
Hi fellow Sea ray owners,
Just had a 6.3 earthquake hit Christchurch New Zealand....devastation in the central city and lots of injuries and sadly fatalities. Only 5 km deep and 10 ks south of Christchurch city. Lots more damage than the Sept 2010.
I hope Barlow and his family are safe.
My...
