    Question on Windlass Anchors

Hi Boat boy, I fitted a Quick vertical to my 230 which was a rope and chain set up. It was a great winch with plenty of grunt. A few things to look out for are retrieval speed, max pulling power and price. If you go with a reputable manufacturer you can't go wrong. Run the recommended cable...

Looking at buying a 400 sedan bridge

Hi all, It's been a while since I have been on here as we have a New Zealand built boat at present. I have had a look through the 400 sedan bridge thread and picked up on heaps of maintenance related info. We are currently looking at yr2000-2002 400 Sedan bridges in America. They seem to be...

    motor knocking

I would start by taking the rocker covers off, check for bent push rods or worse a dropped valve :( I have seen a small block snap the top off a piston at the oil ring groove once.... Sounds similar.....It would run fine apart from a knock as the piston and skirt smack together. You should be...

quick 12 volt windlass....wont raise anchor

I have had the same problem.... It was a poor connection on the circuit breaker (reset) stud. I only found it watching a spark jump from the lead to the stud.

    Help!!! cabin floor always wet

Leaks in boats can be very hard to find... In my 230 I had a leak by one of the oval windows which I re-sealed twice. In the end I found the leak was coming from an aerial mount about 2 meters away and was tracking around the inside of the roof lining carpet! Using tissue paper or blotting paper...

What's causing radio static when battery charger is on?

These are called ferrite filters and quite rightly are on most computer cables. I used to get depth sounder noise coming through the radio. Measure your antenna cable diameter, there are heaps on EBa*. I fitted 2, one at the radio end of the antenna and the other at the antenna end and it...

    Alpha trim ram frozen

You need a special tool to undo the cap under the anode (you can make one out of plate metal and 4x 3/16 screws or bolts). I take it the leg wouldn't trim up and down which led you down this road.....The reason I ask is it's normal for one ram to operate when they are disconnected at the leg.

Using a magnet to protect your engine

Hi electricaldoctor, Yes there is...... E.bay and search for "rare earth magnets" or your local craft and hobby shop?

Using a magnet to protect your engine

I hadn't seen a rare earth magnet before... I used 25mm Diameter x 3mm thick and they are so strong I'd say anywhere on the filter would trap the nasties inside.

Using a magnet to protect your engine

I think most are outside - in. Maybe stick the magnet to the side of your filter? Im going to cut mine open in 40 engine hours and have a nosey.....

Using a magnet to protect your engine

We all know metal particles being circulated in the oil are not good for engines. Engine sump plugs rarely have a magnetic pick up (transmissions do) and rely solely on the engine oil filter to capture any metallic particles that end up in the oil. I'm not taking any credit for this or...

Hi Graham, Stink news about your Burgee! With all the wind we've been having I wouldn't be surprised if it got blown off....it's been like that here anyway. I'm pleased we're on the right side of winter now, hope you have a good season. All the best getting a new flag. Cheers Mike.
