Garmin Transom Mount Depth and Temperature Transducer 50/200kHz part number 010-10272-00 brand new never opened in factory package. If you can use it make an offer and it's yours. I bought it new and never opened the package.
If the hairdryer is too slow, I've had good success with a quartz light (square type used in the workshop, cost about $10). The light bulb gets plenty hot enough and still won't damage surrounding areas. Once softened, the letters can be scraped off with an old credit card.
Why replace the door? I had water from the shower making its way into the storage cabinet (and soaking the TP mounted to the back of door). Added some rubber gasket material around perimeter of door frame (from Lowes) and end of problem.
Guys.... don't laugh but we've found that if you tuck some dryer sheets (yes, common Bounce dryer sheets) around where spiders like to gather, the spiders disappear. You can put them under seat cushions, tucked into corners of cabinets, etc and they will make the cabin smell good as well as ward...

Be advised... I thought my trailer button was broken... you really have to push it hard and hold it for it to work. Found out others have experienced this also. So don't be timid when trying the button.
I have the 198C ... could it be that there is no transducer installed? Without one installed (either thru the hull or perhaps at the transom) the features you mention will work but no depth reading. If that is it (it helps) I have a new transom mount still in the bag that I can let go for a low...
If yours is like the one on our boat, the front covers at the left and right sides of the front panel can be gently pryed off. Left cover pops off to the left, right to right. Once off, you will see mounting screws holding entire unit to wall.
Best investment you can make (IMHO) is a compression guage. Pull spark plug and check compression on each cylinder. Compare to whatever normal should be (google it). Even a cheap guage from Harbor Freight is a step in the right direction.
