check your cap, rotor, and wires. it's amazing what a new cap will do for those engines. dont think bottom fouling will cause you to smell gas. thats usually fouled plugs

stop whatever you are doing and go get some muffs to run the engine on the hose. if water doesn't start coming out the exhaust quickly, you can start pulling hoses to see where the water flow is stopping. overheating an engine is very bad
