Need a Review on Inflatable Vinyl Buoys or another idea.

If it's structurally sound enough, I would attach some 4x4 posts as low as I could, going up a couple feet above the top of the bulkhead. You can then put some conventional pads on them. The rub rail will touch the pads and keep the hull away. Mooring whips are great, but when you dock during...

    Fogging MPI vs EFI

MPI and throttle body injection (TBI) are both EFI. Yes, with TBI you can fog into the engine, you still need to shut down the engine while spraying. Fogging oil needs to get inside the cylinder walls/heads and stay there, by running it through the gas you're not really accomplishing anything...

    Electric Trim Tabs

They generate less drag than traditional tabs. There was a guy on the BOC who completely refurbished an older boat, and he installed them and was quite happy.

If this is the worse thing that happens......

I did something similar. I had completed a ton of electrical improvements, and when I was finished, the engine wouldn't start. I didn't touch any of the start circuits, but I checked everything and traced with a DMM. I could not figure out what I had messed up by doing my wiring. Finally I...

The 10% rule & what can you afford?

I think any hard and fast rule fails in most cases. Things like a boat should be a consideration of your financial stability, and the boat's value to you. IE, you have no money to afford one, a boat should probably be last priority. If you make 35k a year, and being happy is spending every...

Made the offer, what do you think the used boat market is like today?

NADA is high, values are low. Retail/dealership prices are higher than private sales in most cases. What are comparables selling for in this area? Other areas? Are there any boats on the market for what you want to pay in the condition/configuration you want? Factor in transportation costs of...

HELP! What's going on in my engine compartment?

Sounds completely possible. There appears to be somewhat of an adhesion issue between the gelcoat and resin, a minor build quality issue. I'd pull everything out that's loose and then fill it in so you don't have any water issues progress. Use a good dewaxer "just in case". It's 100%...

    How big are these waves?

Looks like 1-2 with some 3's as many have said. The very problem with Winnebago is the frequency, that's why there's pounding with such small waves. Hit Michigan and you'll find 1-2's are nothing :) Winnebago gets a nasty chop.

    Portable Airconditioner

The ice chest air coolers add humidity... imagine a fan blowing over a whole thing of ice :) So that's not what you want to do if humidity is the issue. I recommend buying a cheap ($89) home AC and putting it in your emergency escape hatch if you have one vertical, run it on your generator and...

5.7L Bravo III What is Max Speed (MPH) & Is that Enough?

Yes, 5.7 B3 would be my preferred package for that boat - good combination of performance and economy. I'd think max speed should be a bit higher than 32.

    Portable Airconditioner

No, but a boat is 100% uninsulated with lots of windows as well. I wouldn't bother trying a 1000 BTU. On a 29', a 5000 BTU air conditioner will just adequately cool the cabin on all but the hottest days. It's not feasible to run an AC from an inverter. A EU2000 will start a 5000 BTU just fine...

Navionics for the iPhone changes their app.

This is probably much of Apple's doing. It's quite possible that the changes they made required a new app instead of an "upgrade", especially if it's capable of downloading new map data. Other than a limited number of "free" downloads, Apple doesn't provide any means for developers to offer a...

    Propane heater

Not sure about Propane, but diesel heaters are easy to find. You could get a Webasto coolant heater and use it with your existing heat exchangers/plumbing. They can be installed inside the boat in a closet and vent to the outside.

Pretty soon they'll be making boats without transom doors again :)

Lost 8 then 5 MPH at the top end

I think Winnebago was worse last year than the year before in terms of growth. I definitely had more. Have you considered painting? There are some great bottom paints; Pettit Vivid is a "hard" paint that feels/looks like regular Awlgrip/Imron/etc. (ie, attractive) but is a mild ablative.

    Considerate Boaters................

Gotta be honest; I have the same impression of boaters in general as the writer of the letter the OP posted. As a whole, at least around here, they're rude arrogant asses. Like any stereotype, there are exceptions to the rule of course. My addition to the list would be pontoon boats that...

    How Not to Dock

And rub rails... that's what they're for! The stainless inserts over vinyl are not just for flash, they're also the most effective rub rails... besides a bunch of old tires :) I hate when people build a dock that requires carefully placed fenders to prevent you from scratching the hell out of...
