assuming that the control has settings of "off,1,2,both", then yes you would normally alternate between 1 and 2. my understanding is that this gives each battery a good load during starting and ensures that the other battery is good should you forget that the refrigerator is cooling the beers...

i went to the boat for first time in two weeks yesterday. (we have had some bad weather and i have been very busy). my intention was just to check the boat out and turn the engines over. i started the starboard engine fine. port just clicked - battery problem. i used the emergency start rocker...

its turned on by one of the rocker switches at the helm. i cant recollect exactly whether its on its own switch but i think so.

on a similar note, my owners manual says to run the bilge blower for 2 minutes before starting the engines. sometimes i remember and run the blower for 30 seconds, other times i forget. is that a serious safety issue?

i just spent time on my fresh water system and, with the help of the experts here, its sorted now. if you search for "water pump" or similar you will find threads here that aleady have most of the answers you need. but if i can be any help, just shout! good luck with the overhaul.

do you have forward foot switches AND helm controls on that model?
