I would think your engine temp should be closer to 170 when running. I would check that the waterpump is not seized up and that the idler pully and tension pully spin smoothly when the belt is off. I'm curious to see what you find.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll check out Ussepa and Matanzas. Anything around sarasota or longboat is too close to home to make a trip out of.
If were just up to me I'd go back to tween waters (creature of habit when I find a place I like). The wives think we should try somewhere new.
The 210 is good in the bay as long as the wind is not more than 15knots. I've come back from egmont key when its kicked up to 20 knots and its a rough ride and I wouldn't have wanted to be in my neighbors 180 bow rider. Actually in a 2-3' chop my searay handles it better than some of my...
Does anyone have any recommendations for a resort with marina either North or preferably South of the Tampa area? I'd be willing to go as far South as Naples or as far North as Crystal river. We took a group of boats South last year and stayed at Tween Waters for 3 nights (which I liked), but...
Welcome to the area! I think a 21-24' BR or SD would be perfect for what you want to do. You should be able to find one in decent shape in your price range. I would definately pay a good surveyor or mechanic to look it over and check out the engine (and take him on the test ride). I paid a...
The covered lifts are to pickup the boat and drop it from the fresh water canal to the salt water. Max on the crane is 20,000 lb so you would probably need to be on one of the saltwater canals with a 310. There have been a few on the saltwater that sold in the mid 300's in the last 6 months...
In my area one of the more affordable area's on the water is called the Inlets on the Manatee river in Bradenton. Houses that sold for $600k 5 years ago are going for around $350k. Have some friends there and thy really like the community. 15 minutes from your backyard to get to Tampa Bay...
Insurance is 3 to 4 times higher in Florida than Chicago for the same priced home (higher if you are in a flood zone which is most waterfront property). My realestate taxes are about 1/3 so in the end it winds up about a wash again comparing a house of the same value in Tampa Bay area to...
I saw this article this weekend. They moved around all the channel markers going into the Manatee river earlier this year. I wonder if the captain was relying on his chartplotter in the dark to stay in channel...
Tim,
As you head South if you go inland from Sarasota to Venice their is a nice little old Florida style restaurant called Casey Key Fish House (just past the swinging bridge) that has great grouper sandwiches.
Pelican bay in Cayo Costa State Park (South end of Charlotte Harbor) is a nice...
Ken,
I saw your boat parked right their in the middle.
Chuck, I think I also saw Alegrias.
I would have stopped by to say hello if I'd checked this before heading out Sunday. Unfortunately we couldn't stay long at Lido as the kids had a birthday party to get to a 2pm so it was an...
I think I know the boat your looking at, it's 15 minutes from my house right by where I launch my boat. I'll ask my mechanic if he does surveys or has a good recommendation.
I would recommend you hire a local mechanic/surveyor to go on the test drive with you and then do a full check of all mechanicals including a compression check. It shouldn't cost more than about $250 and is well worth it. my surveyor wrote up a quick report with all problems and maintainance...
I removed the drive this weekend and sure enough the bell housing was corroding around the water passage with a lot of pitting where the o-ring sits. There was one spot where the seat that the o-ring sits didn't have enough of a good surface left to sit properly. The u-joint and exhaust...
Thanks for the replys. I guess I'll pull the outdrive off to check the gasket and o-ring before I buy a $600 bell housing. As I've now had salt water inside the shift cable it looks like I'll be replacing that next week. I just hope the outdrive has no problems due to the water leak this...
I think the motor sits very close to the bottom of the bilge on the sundeck (about 6" from the bottom). But I think the real problem was that the previous owner didn't do a good job of rinsing all the salt water out of the bilge and bottom of motor after use.
I see your in St. Pete. hope to...
I just got back my boat from my mechanic, I had to have the motor pulled due to a rusted oil pan that was leaking. While it was at the shop I had a bunch of other work done (new starter, plugs & wires, dist. cap and had the out drive pulled and new water pump put in).
When I picked up the boat...
