got ours at a specialty lumber store here that carries teak and other exotic woods. That is where I would start. Also may want to google Iroko and see what it gets you. BTW, where in Michigan are you?
right now teak is about $44.75 a lin./ft for a 6" board. I bought IROKO, for about $4.75 a lin./ft. Iroko is just as durable as teak, looks very similar when stained, has a silicone base naturally in the wood and does not take as much stain to finish as teak does (not nearly as thirsty). My...
It would be nice if you followed up on your post as to "no", "maybe" "sold" or "can't be bothered " or something! A lot of people have responded to your post, but you haven't bothered to reply - so what's UP? :smt021:smt013
we have a '78 220 overnighter with the same "crappie" looking panels - on the v-berth bifold doors, on the sides of the helm, and a few other places. This stuff really looks dull, plain, blah and un-attractive. I am toying with the idea of painting these panels with a melamine paint (white)...
see if there is a detailing shop in your area that does boats. The wife's shop is advertising boat detailing and she is looking forward to the challenges of doing a job a lot of boat owners balk at.
Nice work. Just moved our boat indoors in my wife's detailing shop. Will be tackling a lot of the same things you have done. Your posts and pics have really helped us plan our project. BTW, my wife is from Marysville MI, and we have lots of family and friends there. Our cousin owns Sue's...
Jarhead, could you please tell me one thing? How did Marines get the name "Jarhead"? Coming from a family of Marines - my Dad was a Sgt and my Unk was a Drill Sgt career man, but both are dead now - I have always wondered that. If you could enlighten me, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
we have a '78 220 OV and her lines are just a little different, but still a real gem of a boat. Hope you love yours and get as much enjoyment out of it as we do out of ours.
Hello Irishfire. Welcome aboard. It is really good to see a lot of Canadians joining the club. I too am a firefighter in Emergency services here in Sault Ste Marie. My daughter lives in T.O. and is an Arson/Explosives Investigator. Good luck with the boat. If you are ever heading up this...
Another newbie who just discovered this thread. We just purchased a 1978 220 Overnighter. The boat is all original, but in great! shape. Looking forward to visiting withall you "old" vintage boat owners.
If you have a need for printed material, print what you need. Being able to carry a flash drive with all the manuals you need is a lot easier than carrying a wad of printed material, and you can access your stuff no matter where you are. Having manuals in PDF format is definitely the way to go
by the way, sea ray does not have manuals, wiring diagrams etc. Have you had any luck with getting info, manuals etc.? Assume you have either really knowledgeable people or other resources available if you are doing a restore. Trust you love your classic Sea Ray as much as we love ours.
Thanks to all who replied! The place I notice the most difference in the color is on the sides of the boat - not up near the snaps. It looks great from a few feet away, or if you are looking straight at it; but if you get up really close (6" or closer), or look at it on an angle (from the...
My husband and I bought a 22' Sea Ray 220 earlier this month. It had been stored outside for a year and a half, so I have been using boat armor compound (came with the boat) on it to bring the gelcoat shine back. It is very smooth and shiny now, but some of it is cream color and some of it is...
