I have a Mercruiser 228 in a 1978 225 cruiser and was just diagnosed as needing exhaust flappers. Dealer says that engine needs to be pulled to replace flappers. I'm going to risk using the boat a couple more times before it gets too cold, but I plan on getting that done over the winter...
