    Fuse Location? - Stereo 1990 270

Well I never was able to trace the green wire to a connection with anything. I lost it as it went through an inaccessable area after leaving the engine room. I finally gave up and cut the wire back in the engine room and routed it to a spare fuse slot on an auxilary fuse panel. I taped off...

    Batteries?

Yes, pos to pos and neg to neg is correct to maintain the same voltage but increase the amp hours available. There will be no problem with having one alternator charging threee batteries. It will only charge at the top of it's ability. It will just take quite a bit longer to get all three to...

    Fuse Location? - Stereo 1990 270

Well I've chased the green wire using an ohm meter all the way from where the stereo mounts just above the dinette on the port side, back into the engine room, all the way to the transom, all the way across the transom and now part way up the starboard side of the engine room. All of this has...

    Fuse Location? - Stereo 1990 270

Thanks for the response CV-23. I have pushed on all the red breaker buttons in DC box in the engine room and none of them seemed to reset. My next plan is to take the cover off of this box and trace the wire into it. I'm going to test the continuity of this wire from where it powers the...

    Fuse Location? - Stereo 1990 270

In the process of installing a new stereo in our 1990 270DA I must have shorted out the constant power feed to the stereo. I had the wires connected and unit was working but when I started to insert it into the slide in bracket it quit. A little meter testing and I determined that the green...

Your experiences with ethanol storage over the winter?

I've stored with a partly filled tank every winter with Sta-Bil added and have never had a problem. I have two fuel filter/water seperators in line and change them each year. I always fill the tank with fresh gas on the first cruise of the year. This year it took 50 gallons at $4.02 a gallon...

Cleaning Air Filter on my 7.4?

As Bt Dr. says, it should be an all metal flame arrestor. I use brake cleaner. Just did mine Friday. Leaned from my mechanic. Fast and effective.

    Lost My Power Steering

Thanks for asking. No, I did not see any bubbles and I did have the cap off the pump while it was running to observe for low fluid or air bubbles. The fluid was at the appropriate level and the belt was turning the pump just fine. The steering response is as if the engine is not running at all.

    Lost My Power Steering

I recently had the Y-pipe replaced along with a rebuild of the transom shield assembly at great cost$. No leaks now and the engine runs great. Went for a cruise yesterday in 69 degree weather. It was a great day but now my power steering doesn't work. The pump is turning and full of fluid...

    Mercruiser Y-Pipe

Thanks for the info Frank. I think I'll inlist the aid of my friendly boat mechanic on this if I can't readily detect the hole. Without the back presure from the seawater I doubt I can replicate the problem with muffs on the drive while the boat is up on the trailer. Considering the situation...

    Mercruiser Y-Pipe

Thanks for the responses guys. That's good advice on making sure I knowwhere the leak is before taking things apart. That I will do. I am pretty sure that it is exhaust related below the waterline as it made a "burbling" sound and the sound changed with engine speed. The sound was inboard...

    1990 270 da

I've never had twins (engines that is) so I can't compare but I do like the room around the single big block when its time for maintenance. I switched to a Bravo III outdrive with the duel props and that was a major performance enhacement. I cruise at 26-27 mph @ 3,150-3,200 rpm and hit 39-40 @...

    Mercruiser Y-Pipe

We had a rather disappointing end to our 2010 season when water started filling our bilge on our last outing. The best I can determine is that the Y-Pipe for the exhaust has rusted through and some of the seawater cooling the exhaust is going into the bilge rather than going overboard. Does...

What type sea conditions can a 280DA handle?

We just brought our 270 home in what was projected by the marine weather channel to be 2'-4' but were more like 4'-6' and also into a 25 mph wind. If your boat is sound the only limits there were boat handling and personal endurance. Five hours of that was enough for me. At 2-4 you are just...

    shore power options ?

Sappington, The concept used on my 270DA is the shorepower running a 3 stage battery charging system that keeps the battery banks charged. It runs all the time the shore power is connected which is 24/7 most of the year. The lights, stereo and pumps run off selected battery banks which are...

    Water Heater Recommendation

MikeS, is this eMaxx unit ignition protected so that it can be mounted in the engine room?

    Water Heater Recommendation

I don't know but I preheat the water heater on shorepower before starting the engine on the theory that it will bring the engine up to temprature faster. On my boat the closed system water temprature is about 145 degrees. This is as hot as most water heaters, more than others. The water...

    Tying up to another boat

That's also the policy at the Tides Tavern docks in Gig Harbor, WA, an extremely popular boating destination in Puget Sound.

    Water Heater Recommendation

If your cooling system is a closed system and you keep quality antifreeze in it there is no reason that the engine hookup would shorten the life of the water heater. I really like having the hot water when I tie up to a buoy or anchor out at the end of a long day's cruise.

    Replace or leave alone

I'd go with the short piece of PVC fix. That hose is several dollars a foot so I'd just do the PVC if you can get away with it.
