    Hello GoAweigh2452.

I started a thread on the use of portable Honda genny's and it went down the toilet pretty quick. Four Suns sent me a PM and said that you might be able to give some real advice on this subject without all of the negative slant. If so, here is what I need to do.

We're going to be on the hook for about 4-5 days in the San Juan's in a month, and I need to be able to charge my batts while out there. I have an 1000W invertor that also acts as a charging system for the batts, so when I'm plugged into shore power it charges the batts. I'd like to be able to set my Honda genny on the swim step and run a cord up to the shore power plug on the boat to charge up the batts.

I think this will work, however I will only claim to understand basic 12V wiring. Do you think the power spikes from the genny when it kicks up will effect the 12V system on the boat? Are there any grounding issues I need to be aware of?

If you've got any insight, thanks for taking the time.

    B
