460 DA Owners Thread

These vent insert are simply a poor design. As I said before, I replaced both (from Formco last year) but cringe every time the tide is up or down and constantly check fender positions if they're anywhere close. I believe there's somebody smart out there who can come up with an alternative design. Perhaps stainless? Or a less fragile fiberglass design? I'm going to start experimenting but, like I said, I bet there are folks smarter than me who can solve this.
There is a guy on here from CT with an 03 460....I believe he posts as CTSurfider....he had a new insert made. It is flat so I don't think it will stick out far enough to break. Check with him about how it was made. I think the marina just made it for him when he bought the boat.

Seeking advice from any of you on the Vacuflush/Holding tank on my boat. On my '99 the main/forward head runs to its own tank in front of the port engine. This past weekend I changed my vent filters as I thought their was more of a smell that shouldn't be there. This one was wet whereas the other filter was dry. We got a pumpout on Saturday, and we were only half full -- and the light went to empty, thought we would be back to "normal".

Upon further investigation, I noticed that when in the engine room there was gray water/waste seeping from this tank, seems to be coming from the top of the tank where the fitting attached to the vent hose and fill monitors. I pulled the vent hose off from the top of the tank to the filter, all clear and not clogged. The vent hose is also clear out to the side of the boat. I checked all my fittings/connections and seemed ok. IF you flush this toilet it all sounds normal, and cycles though and works good. It just seems to seep out at holding tank. I was wondering if it might be my gasket around the top of the tank where the threaded plastic fitting is, as I am sure its original. I don't know where the pressure is coming from if tank is "empty". I assume there must be a clog or back pressure somewhere that I haven't found. I spent a couple hours cleaning up my small mess, and ran boat to local marina yesterday waiting for a more professional look.

Anybody have any experience or advice on what to check?

Anyone know if/how I can set an anchor alarm on my 2003 460DA with OEM (Searay Navigator w/autopilot & radar all original) electronics? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am replacing the 4 inch blower fans in my bilge. Is there any preference on the best/ most quiet right now? I can’t really see anything on reviews so thought I would ask. Thanks

This may or may not help... but I'll give it a try.
To set my anchor alarm on my Raymarine system I have to go into the "Alarm" settings menu. It is buried in a drop down menu in this set up area.
Hopefully that helps.

This fan is on my list as soon as I can get to it (replacing the stereo now). It's a continuos duty and I'm told very quiet compared to the in-line fans.

I’m betting it’s not your tank at all but the water pumps mounted directly above. The port tank for the master berth.

Replacing my Accumulator Tank (Jabsco 12573-3000) with a new one due to leak. (30573-0000) Looks like it may require some new plumbing. Anyone done this and have any advice?

My advice is simple. Remove the accumulator tank. I don't miss it at all, you have 2 pumps onboard and if you have the pressure switches set properly you shouldn't have any noticeable drop in pressure.

I know its been asked but I cant locate it. How do you remove the rings on the aft eyeball high hats to change the bulb.

Thanks John

If you’re talking about the recessed lights then they just pull down. They are held with 2 springs and will snap on your fingers after you finally get them pulled out some. I used a plastic trim tool to get them started then just my hands.

If you’re talking about the lights on the wall of the midcabin then they literally just unscrew and come apart.

Thanks Josh. the recessed lights are the ones I need to change bulbs in.

Whats your set up?

I tend to post all my questions in the 460 thread as that is the boat I have and in most cases my questions are specific to the 460.

We are on Lake Powell in Utah. This is a very remote lake so when working on the boat you really have to do your home work as once your at the boat it is a four hour drive back home to get parts.

It is typical for us to unplug and get off the dock and out on the lake from anywhere to five to ten days at a time. There are not marinas around the lake to pull into to plug back in and charge up. Once the Umbilical cord is unplugged you are at the mercy of your inverter, house batteries and gen. If you dont have a good set up for all three it makes for long run time on the gen to bring the inverter batteries back up to life and as you all know you have to wait for the inverter to power back up.

We Currently have four 6volt for the inverter and then the two starting batteries that also work as some of the 12volt house... as I am told by the prior owner.

We are looking at changing out the four 6 volt inverter batteries to Power Sonic PG-12V200 FR 12 Volt 226-AH 20 hr rate. We know that we will get better life out of these and they are maintenance free also we understand that when the charge on them drop it will take longer to bring the charge back up than the set up we have now.
The currant four 6V are in the back starboard corner of the boat in a box. because of space in that corner the new ones will have to be stacked. I wish there was a better option to just change out the four we have now and use the same box however I dont know of one.

My question is . Have any of you up graded and changed to these type of batteries. Do any of you have thoughts or a better plan? Have you stacked batteries before. These will work well for stacking as they are maintenance free.

Thanks for the help.
Jim

Hello Jim,
I agree that the house battery system on the 460 is a little less than desirable. I, personally, have not changed it from the factory system, but will tell you what I've learned. An inverter is possible with the second set of 6V batteries above the 8D "standard batteries". I have almost 3000hrs on my generator because I just can't justify this conversion. I hope this helps you somewhat. Good luck!

Hey 460 owners,
Has anyone replaced all of their cabin carpet with wood or synthetic flooring? Do you mind sharing product name, colors and is it a do-it-yourself project?
Sea Ray obviously used excellent quality carpet in our boats but when looking at the newer models, many manufacturers seem to be going to hard flooring.
Thanks.

Check page 10 of this thread, I did the floor, can’t believe that was 6 years ago, the floor still looks great

Bob,
Thank you! Wow, I can't believe that 6 years has passed either! Your work was exactly what I was looking for because we have the maple interior as well. I was going to remove "baseboards" and stair coverings as well but when I saw your results, it looks great, and it's less work as well. Do you happen to know the color of your flooring? It looks like a type of maple and it just contrasts the cabinetry enough to give an excellent look. Very nice job.
Still enjoying your boat? They are worth a lot more today than they were a couple of years ago.

I’ll look for the invoice, took longer to get the carpet out and rework the hatches than to lay the floor. Still using it and enjoying it

I have the factory swim platform on my 460. Want to possibly look into putting a hydrolyic one on my boat. Has anyone on here done it after factory on the 460 and if so can you share any details on it?

Thanks
