Weekending at a very nice marina in the Sac Delta that has 50 amp service. I borrowed a 50-30 adapter to my 30 amp splitter to hook up my two 30s.
When I plugged in I had no power. Breaker on dock tripped. Moved to another 50 outlet. Plugged in set breakers on boat heard buzzing. Shut off boat breakers immediately. Dock breaker did not break.
Finally found a nearby 30 amp service and plugged in my splitter and all was normal.
Went later to turn on the Sat TV, inverter for the Sat box is dead, then found that the breaker for my 24 volt thruster inverter/charger was tripped. Tried to reset and immediately tripped.
Some how those are the only casualties.
Any one have a clue as to why or what could have caused it?
I’m going to Ohm out the borrowed 50-30 coupler to see if it’s shorted. It’s a gently used Marinco not a Home Depot cheapie.
I’ll post what I find.

Service is definitely 50 amp 125 for sure.
I ohmed out the adapter and found no indication of shorting

I pulled the cover off of the Thruster battery charger and found at least what look to be capacitors blown open. Looks like repair or replace.
I have a Pro Mariner ProTech 4. It’s original equipment. Any suggestions on a better replacement?
Thanks

Well I’m pretty sure what happened,
The 50 to 30 amp adapter I borrowed is labeled 125v/50 amp
It has three blades and one blade has an index lug bent towards the outside.
When I returned to my slip and found my 50 amp splitter I inspected it and found that it has two of the blades with the right angle indexes (pictured) when I plugged in the borrowed unit I noticed that it could be plugged in in two positions as opposed to just one. I think I indexed it wrong which crossed the hot lead and the ground or something.
Expensive lesson: be careful of borrowed plugs! I usually find docks have 30 amp services but this is one of the few places on the delta that accommodate huge yachts hence the service on the dock are 50 amp.

Carpediem, I replaced my 24 volt bow thruster battery charger in the Fall of 2016. I went with, at the Marina's recommendation, a ProMariner ProNautic. From memory, it was the 2420, but I can check that this afternoon.

That sucks. Invest in the correct y adapter and keep it on board. They aren't cheap but if you travel you'll be happy you have one.

The safety mechanism is built into the indexing so this sort of thing doesn't happen. Someone modified that splitter to allow it to fit. Why anyone would do that did that is beyond me.

When I bought this boat it came with a 50amp/125v Y splitter. I tried twice to sell it on ebay and not one nibble. It's basically useless.

I replaced mine this past winter with a ProMariner ProNautic Series 2430P.

Thanks all. I do have a good 50 amp Y splitter that I have very little opportunity to use so began storing it in an auxiliary dock box instead of the transom locker on the boat. It is now back on the boat to stay.
