Previous owner replaced the Chartplotters with these right before I bought the boat. Would have been my absolute selection.

After a few months - not as happy with the touch screen only - no buttons.

THis trip we have run 800 miles or so, so far. Had a lot of time during some long off shore runs to fully explore - back in love with them.

One nagging question - maybe someone can help.

Chartplotters displays current time. Great.

When you head offshore, about the time the cell phone loses connection (6-8 miles) the time on the Chartplotter goes to Central time (we are in the Atlantic).

When we head back in - once we get around 6-7 miles off the coast the cell phones work - and the Chartplotter switches back to Eastern time.

My guess - it is using some type of cellular signal to pick up the time.

So I started looking through settings - to see how I could change behavior. Went through online manuals - menu options. Not finding anything.

We routinely run outside - so it is kind of a hassle - trying to figure out what the Chartplotter time is - which time zone.

Anyone have any insight?

I would love to have the setting with picking up time from a source. Those days when I know we are off shore, change the setting to hold the same time zone. Flip back and forth as I want to.

Thanks,

Mark

Seems like the time is going in the wrong direction. If anything, the time would go to Atlantic but the boundary for that is almost as far as Bermuda. This article: https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=wxY3zrZkzO4ADlY6gDQxk7&searchType=noProduct seems to indicate there was a problem with charting that was causing uncommanded time shifts and provides some setting change instructions for those afflicted. Hope it's helpful.

There was a recent thread on THT about a similar complaint. In that case, I think they determined the issues was the DST setting, not the actual time zone.

It goes without saying, but you’ll also want to make sure they’re running the latest firmware. Garmin has made major changes since the 76XX series were introduced.
