should i buy a boat that sank ???

On this board, alot of people don't want to buy boats that *operate* in salt water due to potential corrossion issues.

If the engines had to be pickled. . .then that means the engines were submerged. If these are 1987 engines, they were probably to the point of needing rebuilding *before* being submerged. I doubt they are worth salvaging at this point. For repowering, you might consider reusing auxillaries (such as the alternator), but in this case I don't think you would want to do that.

This doesn't sound like a good deal.

Eric, are you really willing to deal with her saying...."see I told you not to buy the boat that sank"... everytime a problem arises?

Geez.

I guess it doesn't get any simpler than that, does it?

Thats a question... You can have a nice salvage boat for a fraction of the price but it is probably gonna stay with you. You might have problems to sell it again and you can be sure no insurance company will sign the papers with you. Long story short, boat can be fine, but papers won't ever be clean again. If you gonna buy it, don't sink it. :D

Would no doubt be the biggest mistake of your boating experience. Nothing but continuous issues.
Absolutely, walk away.

I guess this is my wifes way of keeping from buying the boat. That was her post. Since I tookk the effort let elaberate a little bit. This boat sank in the marina and was tied to cleats and it only sunk to the bottom floor line and it was noticed by the park attendees with a couple of hours had it raised and they pickled the motors the tranny and the generators. I actually have spoke with the man that raised and pickled it. The cabin is realy nice they went and cleaned all the carpet and dried the hull out but you couldnt tell it was sank from the cabin. Here s the boat for that like to scoff at my wifes ignorance or my lack of teaching eiother way. Its a 1987 Silverton xpress with lots of add ons has the twin 454's and it is a 34 footer hace it by my buddy boat and is for sale for 8600 dollars really guys this boat is reaally nice just ........sank
Would you buy a wrecked corvette with a salvaged title? You buy this boat, you'll have nothing but problems. That's a guarantee. In the automotive world, a vehicle that was under water cannot be sold.

Lots of other boats out there, don't get caught up in the good price you think you're getting.

My marina and every marina near me is full of boats that are in salt water. Shock! Horror!

To be fair, someone without much experience owning a boat could see a salvaged boat as a potential way to save money. What they don't realize is that boats that have never had their engines or electrical systems submerged in any kind of water have enough problems *without* adding being underwater as a potential issue. I would suspect (as others have stated) that a salvaged boat would end up costing far more than a reasonably maintained boat that has never been under water.

ClubSeaRay is usually a pretty helpful place and i'm sure that nobody here is mocking your question. Just know that it would be highly inadvisable to purchase the boat you're considering. Once you identify another boat, please do check back and I'm sure that the very knowledgable members here will provide great advice to you in your search. You're better off spending more time searching for the right boat rather than rushing in because one boat seems like a really great deal. Best of luck to you!

So , every electrical item will need replacement including all harnesses that went under
Every electrical part on the motors will need replacement
Generator, nothing left there, cant really clean the armature
Any thing resembling a hole, screw, attachment point, bolts, allowed water to enter the wood and glass areas. Any wood in the floor or cabin ares will be rotting
BUT YOU GOT A GREAT DEAL
