Speedometer Issue

It will be a Mercruiser part, not Sea Ray. The existing one "might" have a part number on it. If you call your local Merc dealer they will probably know exactly what you mean and what you need.

Try 881879011

I found that on the Mercury Marine website.

It’s hard to find. It’s not listed with engines.

It is all the way Down at the bottom, click “accessories”
Then “smartcraft”
Then “sensors/harness and connectors”

It didn’t work. So not the petit. Looks like electrical unless y’all got another suggestion.

*Bump

(I've had a speedo issue for a couple of years as well - waiting to see the outcome)

Have you verified that you are getting a good, strong stream of water to the pitot sensor? You mentioned you blew through it, but there could be a leak in the hise somewhere.

Ollie.. do you have Smartcraft? Did you happen to read through this thread? There are multiple suggestions. There are also TONS of other threads about this. Most center around making sure the pathway is clear. Without Smartcraft, it's even easier... dirt simple system.

I have a feeling it's the pitot, and I've tried to clear it without success. I have not pulled the drive off ( I'm assuming you need to for complete access). I have taken a small screw driver as well as some wire to see if anything is lodged. Hasn't worked.

I "do" have a SmartCraft compatible setup, it just isn't hooked up. My new electronics I purchased this year has the NMEA connection so I can view the gauges via an NMEA SmartCraft Gateway, but that's next year.

Go to the where the speedometer pressure sensor connects to the black plastic tube going to the outdrive. (Look at back of the engine just inside of the port riser. Disconnect the tube and using an air compressor blow air into the tube, it should exit out the pitot hole on the leading edge of the outdrive. If you are getting air through there, you aren't plugged up.

Thanks - I saw your pic of the sensor. I'm guessing its on the port side as well on a 5.0mpi?

Ollie, try a small drill bit... by hand. Then go to the connection (no drill bit, here) above the anti-venitlation plate. You won't have a sensor - Like I said... no Smartcraft, no sensor. Dirt simple.

Thanks Dennis. However, my engine does have SmartCraft (you can see the emblem & I know where the junction is), I just don't have the gateway.
P.s. - This was a pic when I 1st got the Weekender. My bilge is now spotless - I have group 29's with terminal covers, etc.....I'm a little embarrassed

Correct, Ollie. You have the MPI upgrade engine which is Smartcraft "capable". It has the same computer that the 225 uses, but one of the differences between the two boats was that Smartcraft INSTRUMENTATION was not an option with the 215, while it was standard with the 225. This means you have normal gauges - so on the back side of your speedo gauge you will see the speedo/pitot hose hooked directly to it. In your boat, there is a hose that, essentially, goes from the pitot inlet on the drive all the way (uninterrupted) to the speedo gauge.

Thanks Dennis.....I'll check it out.

OK...So I took the old horn out...drilled a few small holes in it. Got all the water out. Replaced the fuse, and HHHOOOONNKKKK. it works. Still no luck on the Speedo. Have to find time to get it to shop.

Is there an official name for it...I'm looking to buy a replacement and I can't find it listed anywhere. under sea ray pitot sensor
Off subject question. Looking to get a larger boat then my 185, and saw you have a 20'. How do you like it with the 4.3? Is there enough power with for skiing, etc? Lastly what pitch prop are you running? Thanks
