so about 8 mo with our boat.. initially it seems i had rain enter the portlights, seals bad.. and the carpet next to the sump under stairs was wet.. (have not found the right seals to replace but taped the portlights for rain and no water intrusion)

now, 1st time this past weekend on shore power running AC... well, the condensate soaked the floor! went through a dozen towels trying to keep up for weekend.

last night dug in... found no power going to sump box due to crappy press fit wire connector failed... and it was leaking into the cabin sump... the water level rose above the lip where stair face comes down and seems to seep right into cabin floor...

so, i pulled the box... soldered the connection and shrink wrapped... JB Welded the connection on box and crack where leaking (leak due to have been broken in past on the connector, was fixed with smaller pcv pipe as an internal sleeve, pvc glued)

question: would you seal the front of sump so it becomes more tub like? or is it good so if water came in heavily, it would make it to the sump?

statement: be careful who works on your boat!! crappy connector should never be used and if a budget repair is required, do it right!

pics...

the right way to connect wires...

I helped a dock neighbor with this exact issue a couple years back. Those ole butt-splice connectors are an absolute classic...submerged in a bilge sump....:)
