460 DA Owners Thread

New pump is ordered. I had power at the pump. So I know the pump is bad. My 2nd concern is I have power there even with all the a/c units off and only the ac pump relay breaker on. The only thing I can think causing this is that the ac unit was pulling in the relay and the relay got stuck as I shut off the breaker when I had no water flow.

If I could offer you a suggestion......? You need to figure out how the relay system works in irder to diagnose it. The relay that runs the pump motor is a 2 part system. The compressor signals a relay trigger that is located in the relay box. You have one trigger for each a/c unit so either or both compressors can tell the pump to come on. The pump runs until the trigger os opened by the compressor. It is possible and even likely that a shorted motor could burn the contacts in both triggers but the relay board may still be ok.

Dometic purchased both Marine Air and Cruise Air a few years ago. The tech folks at Dometic are very helpful and easy to get to on the phone. The triggers are about $75 ea and the relay board is about $200, so before you start throwing poarts at it, you might invest in a phone call and get some tips on trouble shooting the relay/trigger system.

Good luck with it...........

Hello all, Looking to replace my outside bilge vent cover. It is Sea Ray Part 1151463. Anyone know where you can find them? Mine has a crack in it from a fender. TIA

A company named Formco has the forms/molds. They do thermoforming of parts and are located in the midwest (Indiana?). I got the last two bilge vent inserts they had for a 2002 460DA but I assume they can make more. http://www.formcoinc.com/

Helm problems

Last week I stripped the Helm pump on my 2002 Sea Ray 460, most of the seals were leaking over the last few years and it always needed topping up.

Removed it, stripped and cleaned all parts, carefully reassembled it with the new seal kit and refitted it.

Initially a lot of air had to be worked out of the system by turning left, right and back again, but after about 24 hours the bubbles stopped surfacing and the fluid did not require further topping up.

All good now except.......

When turning the steering port to starboard, the feeling is good, quite loaded, and the rudders move as they should. After several turns left to right and back, when starting to turn in the other direction, the steering free wheels with no resistance, and the wheel must be spun 5 or 6 turns until suddenly the pressure returns and the rudders move. This happens intermittently and in no particular order .

Any thoughts on the potential problem please.

Central Vaccum- My Beam Central Vaccum is shot. I tried to get a special order on the motor and they are not around. I think I am stuck with finding a replacement system and Beam does not have one. Best I can find right now is DuoVac Simplici t. The vendor says it is a direct fit and is short enough to fit in the floor. Anyone faced this and is this the best option?

I had to do some work to mine last year and found this company to be extremely helpful.

Brad Prince is their tech support guru and was able to walk me through some work "arounds" to get my system up and running. brad@centralvacuumstores.com

May be worth a shot.

On a side note: This tool was a great asset to my vacuum system as well as my handheld 12v vacuum. It can reach the dash windshield and collect the dust/bugs etc. pretty well without having to lay across the helm.

Thanks! I just got off the phone with Roger at Central. Although the original motor made by Electrolux is discontinued, he found a motor from Ametek Lamb Motors that will fit the unit. Ametek # 115744 Central SKU #6900- Price $135

On a side note.. I ordered the tool you recommended as well :) Thanks for the help.

Hi all,

I have completed my all my Fall/ Spring punch list other than one last thing.

My steering is hard to starboard and easy to port. I know there is a reservoir under the helm.

Any tips on correcting this or the services procedure?

I also wanted to share some of the fun work we did to the boat.
All new down lights and cockpit lights.
Plasdeck floor.
Full JL sound system.

That looks great! What LED system to did you use? (lights/controller, etc.) and best place to mount? Thanks in advance

I replaced my down lights and cockpit lights with Lumitec-Mirage-white,red,blue,purple flush mount sku#113120. It is plug and play. You use the original down light switch and cockpit light switch. As you toggle through.. on ..off. on.. off it switches to each color. When off it defaults to white. The cockpit lights went right in the same hole as the stock lights.. took all of 20 min. On the 460 the down lights are five inch round so I had to do a little retro fit with some new plexiglass custom cut to the old fixtures to accommodate the new 2" lights. I do believe on your 420 the stock down lights are 2" so it should be a easy swap. The only other issue I had is the dimmer switch for the Down light had to be bypassed.

Great insight and thanks. Will go for the Lumitec since it seems to be the right choice. Be well.

Has anybody ever gotten an exhaust type smell from the cockpit A/C Unit when it's running and the enclosure is up. At first I thought it may be diesel fumes from the genny but it gives the same smell when running on the dock power.

if You’re positive it’s coming from the ac I would check the following.

1. The through deck fittings for the ac raw water cooling lines, if not sealed you could be getting fumes from the engine room.

2. The unit could be leaking coolant and you will soon know if that’s the case because you will get a failure.

3. The ducting could be really dirty and need to be replaced.

4. The filter on the unit itself could be filthy or the coils. Coil cleaner is 5 bucks a can at Home Depot and does amazing things.

My thoughts for the day... anyone else?

Thanks so much! I love this group!

I am bummed out. I broke one of mine last week and decided to contact them. I emailed them and Nicki informed me they do not have this form for the part number supplied. Did anyone else have luck?

These vent insert are simply a poor design. As I said before, I replaced both (from Formco last year) but cringe every time the tide is up or down and constantly check fender positions if they're anywhere close. I believe there's somebody smart out there who can come up with an alternative design. Perhaps stainless? Or a less fragile fiberglass design? I'm going to start experimenting but, like I said, I bet there are folks smarter than me who can solve this.
