Grease fitting on steering cable

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to grease the steering cable. The cable is newer but was installed with the grease fitting facing the stern. I’ve tried with a universal fitting as well as some complex boat yoga. No luck. Anyone have a similar experience with better results? Is it an odd size?

I’m not sure if it’s an odd size, but if not, there are 90° zerk fittings and well as 90° fittings for the grease gun. You may have to try one of those options.
