Official 330 Sundancer Thread

That was not the case for me. The two in the bilge were wired in parallel and were the house batteries running all the 12v loads on the boat and started the port engine. The batteries under the seat one was wired to the starboard engine the other was for the generator.

I suspect yours are wired the same.
It looks like my charger is only wired to the 2 batteries under the seat. The 2 house batteries are in the bilge and I cannot find any wires from the charger. Does that seem correct? If so, I am only charging the house bank while running the boat?

The wires don’t run directly to the batteries so it may be hard to see if it is connected. Unless a previous owner rewired it.

The wires from the charger probably run to the "Battery" side of the port battery switch. I think that's where i saw mine when I installed my new ProNauticP battery charger. It charges the 2 port batteries together since they are connected in parallel.

I think that is right. And they are in wire looms so its hard to trace where they connect. On my boat there was also an in-line 30amp fuse between the charger and where the wire ran into a wire loom bundle.

So. unless the previous owner re-wired the batteries, I can assume both sets of batteries are being charged from the charger?

This is pretty easy to figure out. Use the boat, put a little drain on the batteries, and plug it back in. Get a voltage reading on your batteries with the charger turned off and then get a reading with the charger turned on. You should see a couple volts difference.

Can anyone who has replaced the v-berth mattress tell me what size foam mattress is needed to cut up and make a replacement? Not at the boat... Also, did you do it in 2-parts like the original, or just one piece?
Thanks!

I replaced mine in two sections like the mattress.

I rolled out the new foam mattress and laid the old pieces over the top. You'll need a king size mattress to make both pieces. Even with the king, there's no way to turn the old pieces so they both fit on the new mattress.

In the end, I needed to scab a little from the remaining scrap foam to complete one of the pieces.

Thanks for the info. I purchased an 8" king size memory foam mattress, and was surprised when I laid the 2 original pads on top - as Boater420 noted, regardless of how you nest the pads on the mattress, you can't get both to fit. I plan on cutting tonight with the electric kitchen knife, will post pics.

I used some spray adhesive from Loctite to glue the scabs together, then duct taped over the seam to strengthen the bond. 6 months and many a good night's sleeps later, it's still holding together.

For all those with a Westerbeke 4.5 BCG

My circulating pump seized a few weekends ago. I heard a small chirp at first. It must have been the belt slipping on the pulley. After about 20 seconds the chirp went, away but I started to smell smoke and shut it down.

Removed the belt and determined it was the circulating pump:
037919 PUMP FRESH WATER 4.5 BCG

I went to the Westerbeke website and tried to order the part, which is no longer available. I searched and found several other companies that had the part listed on their website, but were in fact having it drop shipped from Westerbeke.

I did find a non-OEM replacement and purchased it since there are no others available.
https://kingcobrapart.com/products/...acement-water-pump-037919?variant=45457867213

The part was a direct replacement, fit perfectly, and came with the necessary gasket. I tested the part for an hour after installation, and it works as expected.

Maybe there are other vendors with this part available but I was unable to locate them using Google search. If you haven't replaced the circulating pump on your 4.5 BCG, or similar model using this circulating pump, you might want to buy one just to have on hand for the day it fails.

I have no affiliation with this vendor.

Working on my gen now and wanted to ask you about this. Actually I signed up instead of browsing as I usually do just to ask you this lol.

I blew my impeller on my gen 2 weekends ago, something likely got caught up in it and clogged it... Impeller ate itself. I went to put the new impeller on (yes I found all the pieces) and no matter what we did, it would not suck and spit water.

So the diagnosis began... Cleared the sea strainer, and when the drain cock was open, 4-5 inches of water came out of it so I knew it was clear. Next piece, replaced the hose form sea cock to input side of water pump... Still nada. Okay, lets try something... I put the hose on the supply side and boom... split water and ran like a charm. Okay... This seems strange but lets keep playing, put supply back to sea cock and tried again... Nada. Okay, next step... Lets run it off the hose and in a quick motor move to the hose to the sea cock... Which actually worked better than you think... She pissed a half a bottle of water and boom... No water split again.

We pulled the cover to back of water pump and confirmed the impeller was spinning. We checked lines, hoses, replaced... Nothing. Brand new impeller that is 100% made for the Westerbeke. Also, gasket was replaced and the flat metal cover was scraped clean for a good seal.

In the midst of this, I retraced the entire process ensuring I covered all my bases and did the hole process over just in case. Here's the fun part... Note to self, do not use any sort of spray handle on your hose when running the generator... Because I made that mistake and hydro locked it. Yanked the plugs, got the water out of her, tossed them back in... No weird noises. Tossed new plugs in them, she still wont fire over. Pulling valve cover next week and possibly bent a valve. Not end of world but still sucks.

The entire reasoning for typing all this, is did you have ANY trouble "priming" the system once you replaced the water pump? Myself and 2 other boat mechanics (friends that own similar boats) all sat there completely blown away we all tried every trick in the book prior to "the situation that occured". And could not for the life of us get the darn thing to suck and spit water.

Is there a process for "priming" the gen for water or am I missing a step? I cannot find a bleeder anywhere on it.

Thank you

So sorry to hear of your troubles. I had no difficulty priming mine after replacing the circulation pump. There is no bleeder that I'm aware of either. Have you checked each hose for a crack or split? What about the gasket on the sea strainer? Is it sealing properly? Is the cap on the strainer tightened properly? Does the sea strainer hold water? Maybe it has a small crack, especially if it's one of the plastic strainers. All of these will prevent the raw water pump from picking up a prime.

Flow Test Procedures
I start at the sea-cock. Remove the hose between the sea-cock and the sea strainer. Check it for debris as these are notorious for trapping sea grass right where they connect to the sea strainer. If I have 4 inches of water shooting out of the sea-cock I know it's clear. I then reattach that hose and make sure the water travels through it on it's way to the strainer.

Next, make sure the water is passing through the sea strainer. Remove the hose between the sea strainer and the raw water pump. Make sure you have a steady stream of water passing through the strainer and that the hose is clear of debris. If it's good, I put that hose back on and disconnect the hose on the outbound side of the raw water pump.

It's at this point you know if your impeller is indeed working. I fire up the genny and watch to see if I have a strong flow from the outbound side of the raw water pump. If you have water flowing, the impeller is doing it's job and the blockage is further upstream.

Any time you need to crank the genny over repeatedly you MUST close the sea-cock. Over cranking will also hydro-lock your genny.

You say that when the garden hose was used to force water through the system that it worked. This would lead me to believe the system is somewhat clear, but a half bottle of water doesn't seem to be enough, especially when using a garden hose.

The next thing to do would be to pull your heat exchanger. There might be some debris stuck in there which limits the flow substantially. The hose was able to force some water through the exchanger, but the raw water pump was not.

My money is on a leak somewhere before the raw water pump, either the sea-strainer cover gasket, or the cover isn't screwed down tightly. Make sure the strainer holds water. You could also verify the seals on the raw water pump are good by removing it from the generator and filling it with water to make sure it doesn't drip.

Good luck.

When I had my 390 the exciter for westerbeek failed. I researched the par and westerbeek wanted a $1000 for the little part I was so angry. when I flipped it over it had a Mitsubishi emblem on it. I went to a dealer and they cross referenced the part to a 1988 626. unfortunately that car wasn't offered in the America till mid 90's. When I got the part number I went to Ebay and changed locations to Japan. found the part with a napa part number. ordered it on rock auto for $8.99.

My stereo Clarion CMD5 is crapping out. Anyone have any good recommendations for replacements on my 2008 330DA? Got a recommendation/quote from local installer for $3400 with half of that installation. Includes head unit, wired remote, amp, subwoofer and 4 speakers. Would like to hear what others have done and are enjoying! Thanks! New owner here!

I just ordered a FUSION MS-RA70Ni. I like it because it has NMEA 2000 in which case I can remove the old remote from the helm and use that space for something more "helmy". Not sure how it will sound yet, but to be fair, I'm not much of an audiophile. Just looking for a way to seamlessly stream from my iPhone.

Appreciate the response. I agree. I could care less about sat radio/amfm etc as I only want to stream music as do my kids.
