240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Thanks Guys you solved a few storage mysteries for me
I went out in my 240 Sundeck with my old crew from when we were running tiny 15ft Fletcher Bravos with a screaming Mercury 60 outboards. The Guys couldn’t believe the space and luxury by comparison! The seals and dolphins we saw yesterday were an added bonus !

Hi Guys, when I purchased by 240 SD it was very light on chandlery - no ropes, fenders and anchor chain etc
The Anchor I have has a a few problems ( I’m being kind ) first it’s the wrong type, it’s folding Grapnel with just 2 claws rather than 4, it has no chain and it weighs about the 2 small bags of sugar, so great if I owned a 8 ft Rib
I need a plough type anchor as I’m looking to moor up on a sandy bottom, and of course I need to add a decent length of chain but, there is always a but ! The anchor locker has a limit to its size, and therefore the size of anchor.... Two questions - does anyone know the dimensions of the anchor locker and secondly what size anchor in weight are you running ?

I use on of these 13# fluke anchors.

It fits the rubber clips that are in the anchor locker. I added 6 feet of chain, and 100' of 1/2' rope. Works well on the inland lake where we boat.

Hi all. My tach’s smart guage LCD is burned out from the sun. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement from? The new part number is 1909622 (original pn# was 1777617, but is no longer available) GAUGE, SYS TACH 3" S-CRFT 0-7000RPM RV2.

Thanks

Mike

We just bought the 8 pound version of this package, and it fits the locker perfectly:
https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west...r-rode-packages--P005_159_001_006?recordNum=1

It comes with 15' of chain and 150' of rope, which is adequate for us. Not sure if West Marine ships across the pond, though!

Thanks Guys.....I’m pretty clear on what I need now regarding Anchorage ( if that’s a word )

Next issue, the anchor hatch when I opened it up had a gallon or two of water in the bottom, but the drain to the bilge is just above the level of the water, odd !
Of course I will clear the water out at some point but I’m confused as to why the drain point is so high & where did that water really come from ?

It has been a while, but I thought the anchor locker drained outside not to the bilge.

On my past 240... The drain hole was at the very bottom of the locker it drained to the forward floor locker and then into the aft locker then into the bilge. At the base of the anchor locker the drain hole would plug from dirt (mud) that came off the anchor.
Maybe take a pic of your setup it doesnt make sense the drain is above the bottom

On the 240, The aft floor locker (next to the helm seat) has a drain that is about 2" above the locker floor.

Is this what you are referring to?

The bathroom floor drain, anchor locker and forward locker ultimately all drain into the aft locker

Hi,
So here is where I think I might be going wrong, sorry the boat is 90 miles away so I can’t check !
I can’t see the bottom of the anchor locker where the water is, I suspect there is a drain hole at the bottom that is blocked. The drain I see on the right of the locker, just above the water, is a drain into the anchor chain locker rather than a drain out ( if that makes sense ) I think it may come from drinks holder ! ?
BTW Thanks for all the help & guidance as ever....

It could be very well blocked. You be amazed how much sand and debris gets caught up just from people standing and getting in and out of the front of the boat. I usually put a bucket and make people rinse off, then i use the sprayer before they get in, but of course that doesnt always happen. Also verify your bow storage compartment to make sure that is clear also

Hi Guys,
Well after a week it two away I simply emptied the existing standing water ( about 2 gallons ) from the anchor locker and scooped out by hand a few hand fulls of sand and general debris at the bottom of the locker. I found a round shaped hole fill of debris that dug out with a long screwdriver and then put the hose into the hole ( it fitted perfectly ) and boom I had a drainage hole. It appears the ice and drink holders in the bowrider also empty into the anchor locker but that coincident and was not a cause. Anyway I gave the locker a good blast from the hose and it drains perfectly now Thanks

Hi:

I'm a new owner of an older (2002) 240 SD. I have an issue that is rather perplexing. I have dual batteries located below the triangular cushion on the aft port side.I assume this is the correct location for them. The problem is that I am getting water in the battery trays after rain storms. It doesn't appear wet around the batteries and the tops of the batteries appear dry. I assume it is coming in around the cushion but I can't prove it. So far it hasn't been a problem just a mystery.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks

Ike

Welcome, Ike. Yes, the batteries are in the back section in the area you are talking about. Hmm never had that issue myself, does not make sense for the water to be coming from above if the top of the batteries are dry.
Chuck

Hi Ike,
I too have a dual battery set-up in the same place as yourself but like Chuck I also don’t have any water anywhere near the battery area, infact it’s bone dry.
My guess is that is as you say it’s coming from a gap in the corner covers, however that doesn’t help you !

I would tape a sheet of tissue paper over the batteries and see if the paper gets wet, if it’s dry and the batteries are still damp then your corner cover isn't the culprit.

Cheers
Simon.

Congrats on the new-to-you boat. Issues like this can drive you crazy.

Do you have a mooring cover, or just the snap on cockpit cover? Rain water can drip in the edge, especially at the cut-outs where the bimini poles attach. The water will run down the side of the boat and then get under the cushion as you are describing. The drain channel between the seat and the side wall is very shallow (at least on my boat.) Raise the bow a bit more, and the water flows faster to the stern and drains to the bilge instead. I had a similar problem, except the water was filling the trash can under the wet bar sink. Checked the sealant for the cup holder, drain line, etc, then finally figured out it was just running across the counter and into the door. I finally fixed it when we added a full mooning cover, after the original cockpit cover wore out.
