Cheers Rob

My wife would kill me if I talked about her like that, even if she does destroy toilets.

What kind of system is in your 86? Pump out or vacuflush?

Is the odor coming from the toilet when flushed?
Are you using septic tank chemical in the tank?
Is the vent plugged with mud wasps?
Is your vent filter plugged?

Had that issue a couple of boats ago. Found out that the smell was actually coming from the hoses.

I’m heading up to the boat tomorrow I will check out vents.

If its just a consistent stink that does not increase or decrease, my bet is on the hoses too. Over time the stink permeates the vinyl hose and does not ever go away. Replacing it is a bit hard to do though, depending where it is run through the boat and bulkheads.

you can dissolve a small amount of Noflex Digestor in water and use a spray bottle to spray down the hoses to help eliminate the smell from the outside....using Noflex regularly will clean out the hoses from the inside....this may prevent replacing the hoses....

i did this on my boat when i first bought it and after about a month of using Noflex and spraying down the hoses the foul odor was eliminated.....

Use the Noflex on the inside. From the outside squeeze some dawn liquid soap. Flush we with water. Pump out and do it again. May take more than twice but usually not.

I get my noflex from fisheries supply. 4+ and you get a nice discount. 100+ and free shipping so find some other goodies.

We had the same issue, Changed all the waste lines to the new white stuff, The original was the black hose with the green stripe. Smell was gone next trip to the boat. It is a job, A 1998 450 has 80 feet of hose and not easy to get to. We rebuilt vac units, Toilets, level indicators, and took the holding tanks out and cleaned them. New system and no smell. Only way to get rid of it in a older boat. Bad job, Yes, Worth it, Yes, Wife very happy now. Wife happy, Life is Good!! We also use the Flex digestor, Tanks are staying clean.

As mentioned above replace the filter on the holding tank and also make sure the vent line is not blocked.

And don't poop in your toilet....
Ya know? That’s my philosophy. I ask everyone to avoid that unless in the case of an extreme emergency.
I remind them that whatever they do stays aboard.
When we overnight at a marina we make the trip to their facilities.
But, I’ve been told that doing it is okay if you treat the heads. In fact, they say something about enzymes etc..
I just can’t wrap my mind around it though.
