Cat C7's
I have a 2002 Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge with 2005 CAT C7's in them.

Problem - Port and Starboard Engine display error code on the CAT Monitors.
Port Code = Diagnostic Code - Throttle Sensor Calibration Proceed with Caution
Starboard Code = Diagnostic Code - SPN 515 FMI 13

On the port engine i am not getting instant throttle response. If i throttle up (in gear or out of gear) if will delay about 4 - 6 seconds and then build RPM to the expected rate based on how far i have moved the throttle. The Starboard engine appear to have no problems, throttle response is as expected with no noticable delay.

I am prepared to call CAT, just figured I would post here in case it was something that simple i am overlooking.

I will post the pictured of the CAT Displays. Thank you in advance for any help!

Have you tried checking the response with the sync turned on to the good engine, do you have standard throttles?

Yes if i turn on the sync for the starboard engine the response is as you would expect.

If you were asking if I have standard throttle as a separate question - I would say yes, they are the typical Sea Ray chrome and gold throttle levers.

If you remove the top panel on the dash you we see the controls for shifting and throttle. There is a black box for each lever. The one

It cut me off, most likely the port black box is bad, Cat dealer should have the part

The C-7 is totally electronic and uses J1939 code diagnostic system which is kind of like the automotive onboard diagnostics (OBD) on cars. I have no manuals for the c-7 but the SPN 515 means the ECM has recorded rpms greater than the rev or fuel limit.....this doesn't necessarily mean you have over reved the engine, just that the ECM has seen that indication from the engine sensors. The FMI or failure mode identifier -13 indicates a failure in a throttle sensor. Your onboard diagnostics is telling you the throttle sensor is out of calibration.

In any event, it is probably going to take a technician with access to the Caterpillar computer diagnostics sysyem and a laptop to fully diagnose and clear the codes. I'd save time and call Cat.

Thanks Frank - I have a CAT Mechanic at the boat as I type looking into it.

Turned out to be a Throttle Position Sensor. CAT Mechanic verified by testing and then swapping the port for starboard and the problem followed. Holy smokes is the part $$$ - CAT Part 121-7029 = 600.00. Sure does look a lot like every other TPS...I guess not!
