Couple Found Dead in Boat

Terrible. Hopefully this sad story will remind others to check and replace batteries in their CO detectors. I just did mine on Sunday.

So sad, I feel for their survivors.

The factory 12v detectors also need to be replaced every 5 years. When I purchased my boat, the original detector from 1997 was still installed. I replaced it with another hard wired detector and installed a battery powered detector in the v-berth and one in the cockpit.

Both the battery powered and hard wired detectors work equally as well. With that being said, I would still want one hooked up to 12v just in case of battery failure.

I agree this was avoidable. That said.....I have never seen a 24' Bayliner that came with a generator installed.

Where can we get the 12v hard wired replacements? I know mine works but it might still be a good idea to replace it.

I installed these units in my 98 290 DA.

Yep - way to go. I hate that they have changed the footprint on the Xintex at least three times :(. Also watch the production dates on these - especially if you are getting a discount online. They are typically good for 5 years (not sure about the new ones) and a 2-year old unit is no bargain.

I opted to add a little cover plate to cover the box imprint from the old unit.
